Yeah, down-shifting, to climb hills, is something I can live with, in exchanged for the smoothness and lack of temperment.\r\nJust curious why, with a Normal (60 HP, DIN, 70 HP, SAE) the car is fitted with a Super tachometer, which redlines 500 rpm higher. The Supers had stronger internals, than the Normals and could, easily, cope with the higher redline. The Normal is much better suited to operating in the 2500 to 4500 rpm band and twisting it's tail, another 500 rpm, really doesn't gain anything.\r\nI love the green interior! I've really grown weary of black, plastic interiors.\r\nGLWTA! I well remember the late Harry Pellow, in his 356 Registry magazine column, frequently mentioning bent connecting rods found when disassembling original 1600 Normal engines. His recommendation was to never reinstall the original 1600N connecting rods, when rebuilding the engine.\r\nYou mention the Super 90 engine's differences, but did not mention that the S-90 crankcase had some additional strengthening built in. Also, the C camshaft is quite a bit better than the 1600S cam, although the two models have identical horsepower ratings. But, the C seemed to be a significantly stronger performer, than the 1600S and I recall being quite impressed, when I drove a friend's 356C. At the time, I owned a 356SC.\r\nBut, my original point was that the 1600 Normal is such a delightfully smooth and un-fussy engine and why try to hop it up? Maybe to get it to the point it could challenge a medium performance mini van, piloted by a soccer mom and full of kids?\r\nPerhaps the seller will chime in and answer the question about the Super tachometer.\r\nBTW, I owned & drove 356s from 1964, thru 2014 and, during those decades, became intimately familiar with their specifications and inner workings. This was my old car. I cleaned the car up a little and I did the complete interior, as seen in the pictures back in 2013. I sourced the leather from my friend Jim in Santa Rosa. The leather hides used were the best (I think it is called the 9000 series). K&H European sewed the seat covers and door panel pockets for me and I did the rest including the carpets bound with the green leather. I installed the carpets, headliner, and the rest of the interior. I built the car for me to drive and enjoy. I hope that the interior has weathered well over the last 10 years. The engine ran strong when I bought the car but had a couple of oil leaks and fuel issues that I resolved. The transmission was overhauled when I owned the car by Ron in Petaluma. It needed some bearings and a 4th gear. I have pictures of the car when I worked on it should someone want to see the pictures. This car is very solid. Yes, it has some rust bubbles but it has no structural rust issues. Originally it was a California car from the Sacramento area. It had its original black ca. license plates on it when I sold the car.
