I had forgotten that mine had had a clear screen on it when i bought it as a punk kid .. \r\nSo, 2 years ago i had a chance to revisit, 1st time ever, the corner i'd low sided on.. the morning after i'd bought it ( \ud83d\ude06\ud83d\ude06.. punk kid..) I was working in the area.. 250 miles from home.. \r\n I'd slid on it until the gravel shoulder, then we'd both flipped over the bank .. out of sight.. Minor bruises , a kaleidoscopic eye, and a new set of lips opened up on my chin.. I left it there in the 2 foot bushes, way below sight lines, hitched back to the hospital for stitches .. etc .. a buddy with a pickup made the trip to retrieve it and me.. \r\n So , on this exploratory visit, after marvelling at the height of the trees .. i finally decided where i'd most likely landed .. and there was a big chunk of motorcycle screen sitting there .. Probably nobody'd ever walked that spot in all the years since .. Great ( and lucky) memories ..\r\n My Hyabusa and K1200S both have small factory screens .. I bought the bike from the second owner who owned it for 37 years and made all of the mods shortly after purchase. Miles are believed to be original based on condition of all of the components. I found that the small windscreen isn\u2019t very helpful as it deflects the wind squarely at my helmet. Maybe for shorter riders or with adjustment it could work for others. I look forward to hearing more stories and learning additional details about the bike from KZ enthusiasts here on BAT. All of the KZ1000 LTDs had mag wheels.\r\n\r\nThe rear hub, brake caliper, and brake rotor look to be correct for the KZ1000-A1. The LTD used a different caliper and rotor. The rotor drill pattern doesn't match any stock KZ part, so these could be the original rotors but modified.\r\n\r\nI have read that it was popular to lace a 16\" Harley rim onto the KZ1000 hub, to get that fat tire look. That's my guess as to what was done here. \r\n\r\nThe LTD chain guard is required when running the wider rear tire, otherwise the tire rubs on the stock A1 plastic guard.\r\n\r\nEven with the faded paint, this is very nice low mileage KZ1000. \r\n\r\nGood luck with the auction.\r\n\r\nOh, and I recommend that whoever buys this should find a stock airbox and put it back on. Either way the bike looks great! Definitely for comfort a higher screen is better, but they do drag at speed. I had totally forgotten that mine, bought from a young family man cop, had had the screen, then just a couple years back i found a photo my older sister or her hubby had taken with me in front of their house, holding my little nephew on the tank, ( probably 15 minutes before i'd low sided it \ud83d\ude01) and there it was with the windscreen on it ! Moral of the story, when blasting down a totally unknown road, believe the 'reduce speed, corner and steep downhill coming at you sign.. even though you can't see the corner yet, lol .. It was crazy seeing 30 or 40 foot trees all down the slope below the corner, and concrete no-posts where before there'd been 2 foot bushes and no guard rails or no posts. My buddy and i rolled it downhill to a farm pasture to get it to his pickup .. \r\nThese bikes definitely are tough, as the basic bike wasn't hurt at all.. a few bolt on parts plus a small tank dent where the right hand grip/ bar bent as it whacked it.. While I do not have any stories about laying it down, here is the story on why I picked this up in the first place. I am a car guy at heart, but I grew up in the 70s and my dad had a KZ650 that he bought new and used as a commuter. He took me on a number of weekend rides down back roads, once even getting a speeding ticket with me on the back. These memories stayed with me into adulthood but I really didn't plan on pursuing a purchase. My dad ended up giving his bike to my cousin without offering it to me. When I saw this one for sale with the big engine, mods, and the story of how the previous owner made the changes back in the early 80s, it just rang true like it was what a muscle bike enthusiast would have done back in the day. It was then preserved until I found it. Just seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I enjoyed the rides I have taken, even though I didn't put many miles on it and now it is time for someone else to enjoy.
