I haven't seen that color sticker in a long time and would ask the seller if there is a current registration with a proper blue sticker that would expire in 2024, or a bright orange sticker that expires in 12/2023. \r\n\r\nFor the record, I believe the color sticker in California in 1964 was white. \r\n\r\nThe license plate would probably be right if it was white with blue letters/ numbers including the California script. \r\n\r\nThat said, this plate was likely acquired from a vendor, whom I believe is in Florida, which has \"California\" stamped at the top and refinished in the old colors, since the numeric number (3) that precedes the three alphabet letters (DVG) followed by three numbers is a current sequence here found on white licenses. (the \"3\" sequence was issued many years back.) \r\n\r\nThe suspected original plate could not be refinished since there is no stamping of \"California\" on the top per old plates; the white plates now in use have a script \"California\" that is similar to the technique in use for most states where only the alpha numeric numbers are pressed.\r\n\r\n@CarFoolLane California changed over to 7 digits as I have explained above when the 6 digit plates (blue/yellow) which were, for example 123ABC that finally got to 123ZZZ, so they needed more digits resulting in the font being changed to smaller numbers and letters.\r\n\r\nMoving along, I am an owner of a similar 1964 Corvette, which is Ermine White, Silver interior convertible and have a substantial familiarity with these cars. I chose white in 1964 however Daytona Blue was my second favorite color.\r\n\r\nThe original color scheme of this example is rare. It would cost too much money to return this car to original, but the current scheme is also very attractive.\r\n\r\nIt is correct that many powerglide low horsepower cars were equipped with A/C power brakes, steering and windows. The A/C compressor is a Frigidaire model used in GM cars of that era. It would seem that the compressor or air dryer/ receiver can be refurbished.\r\n\r\nA car with A/C and Powerglide could not be delivered new with with a high horsepower engine. That said, the L75 has ample torque (actually more at low RPM than the L76 365 HP which I have in mine).\r\n\r\n@CadillacFlashback, I saw your comment just this moment and have the same question re: stamping on the engine. If it is black, it should be a state issued plate. If it is alloy, i suggest that it is a reproduction.\r\n\r\nA caveat is that the DMV may be issuing these itself, since a few years back California offered an original plate at extra cost, and it could either be a random number or personalized. I am really curious about the red sticker on the upper right side of the plate. What year is that?
