My 2004 Tacoma is a dependable, well cared for, low mileage example in outstanding condition. It has all the TRD options plus some dealer installed ones that are detailed in the photo section.\r\nI encourage everyone to ask questions. I will answer any & all as promptly and full as I can. Hopefully the following information will provide a head start. I will also try to accommodate any serious buyer in my area, or travelling to my area, for vehicle inspections and/or test drives. \r\nI\u2019m taking a cue from a recent seller (thank you) and providing more detailed history and information about my Tacoma up front so potential bidders can learn more about the truck in a shorter timeframe. \r\nOwnership\r\nI am the original and only owner of this vehicle. I purchased the truck from a suburban Dallas dealer in early April 2004. It took almost 3 months before a local Toyota dealer could locate the Tacoma with all the options I wanted. The truck was initially delivered for sale to a Louisiana dealer. My local dealer did the swap thing with them and then had the truck shipped to my local Dallas dealer for me. The only option I had to have the local dealer install was cruise control. I have uploaded the photos of the original Toyota window sticker and the original options list the Louisiana dealer installed.\r\nThroughout my almost 20-year ownership, this truck has been a second or third family vehicle. I am the only driver of this truck. It has never been a daily driver, as you can probably guess from the low mileage for this many years and has been garage stored for its entire life. I believe this point is important. Some people dismiss \u201cgarage kept\u201d as a vague and unimportant historical comment. I happen to believe that being stored in this way, especially with long periods of inactivity, has helped protect the general condition of the truck and in particular the paint from the Sun\u2019s harmful UV rays. This Black Sand Pearl color is spectacular, especially in the sunlight.\r\nI primarily have used the truck in typical pickup fashion - to move large, bulky items for home improvement projects and my hobby of car restoration projects. I also liked to just jump in the truck and take pleasure rides around town. The truck has experienced several minor snow & ice conditions and was never used offroad. The only rough terrain the truck has experienced is a flat, open field close to me where I periodically put it in 4-wheel drive to keep the transfer case and other driveline components lubricated & functioning. Never liked driving a vehicle in 4-wheel mode on dry, hard pavement or concrete.\r\nThe truck drives straight and true \u2013 no alignment issues. The clutch and brakes are both in excellent working order. AC blows cold, even in the Texas summer heat. All the electronic items (windows, mirrors, door locks, etc.) work as they should \u2013 there are no non-functioning items in the truck. \r\nMaintenance & Repairs\r\nAfter viewing the photo array, you may have noticed a spreadsheet picture. I have been a \u201cmotorhead\u201d all my adult life, choosing to perform vehicle maintenance and some repair myself. With a few exceptions, I have performed the oil & filter changes. From initial ownership, this Tacoma has been treated to premium 100% synthetic oil. I was driving approx. 3-4000 miles per year (most years). With the suggested life of synthetic oils around 7-8000 miles, I decided to change the oil & filter every 12 months instead. The quickest & easiest way to keep a record of these oil changes was to tear off the ear of the filter box and record date & mileage. Hence, the additional photo of the 20-odd handwritten box flaps. Laughter is OK here. Back then, I didn\u2019t think this would be public knowledge. I also recorded all maintenance & repair in the truck\u2019s Toyota Maintenance Guide booklet. I used these Guide entries to create the spreadsheet. The Guide entries are pretty messy and all over the place, but they are there.\r\nI have had the driveline fluid (trans, transfer case, diffs) flushed periodically to maintain \u201cfreshness\u201d because of the relative inactivity. The drive belt/water pump/coolant/drive belts were changed eight years ago at 41K miles because of age rather than mileage or malfunction/failure. The brake, clutch and the power steering pump reservoirs have been flushed approx.. 11K miles ago. The K&N engine air filter has been cleaned & oiled every 15K miles.\r\n\r\nCondition\r\nThe interior is very clean and tidy. No tears of stains on the carpet or seats. No damage to the door panels. Never been smoked in and no pets or small children have been in the truck. Approx. six (6) inches of the driver side door seal has deteriorated at the sill plate location. I have a new door seal that comes with. I just haven\u2019t been able to find time to install it.\r\nThe exterior has several blemishes, scratches & stone chips. There is a blemish of unknown origin, about the size of a 50 cent piece, located at the passenger side edge of the front portion of the hood. Hard to see and it almost looks like it\u2019s below the clear coat. There is also a stone chip in the middle of the hood about the size of a lead pencil eraser tip (1/16 in diam.). There are the inevitable stone chips in the leading edge of the hood and in the painted portion of the front bumper. You have to be very close to the vehicle to see them. There are several other minor scratches along the top of both bed rails.\r\nThe driver side door was replaced early in the truck\u2019s life. I believe it was in the first year of ownership. While in the local dealer\u2019s repair shop for some minor warranty work (a squeaky clutch pedal bushing) the door was damaged by the tech while on a two-post lift. The upper part of the window frame section was damaged. The dealer wanted to repair the door but since dents or bent metal at that part of the door cannot be formed (hammer & dolly) back to original shape, repair would have required some body filler. I was very upset and demanded the dealer replace the door, which they did. What's cool about this one that seems rare among later year 1st gen Tacomas is it has the regular 'J-shift' transfer case (meaning you use the lever to go between 2H and 4H, not an electric button). I've been told the engine will go at least 500K miles without ever breaking down. At 150K miles now and in fact is insanely reliable. What is really surprising is just how cool my kids think it is - they would rather drive with a 2.1 liter manual with hand roll down windows than newer cars. It helps that I put in a modern entertainment system, leather interior and repainted the car. I've owned a 2.7L Tacoma and the 3.4L 4Runner, both in manual and a pleasure to drive. Wish I still had the Tacoma, but lost her in a divorce years ago. \n\nThe 3.4L has considerably more power, just as reliable, eats slightly more gas, and has a timing belt (albeit on a non-interference motor) versus a chain on the 2.7L. Mated to the 5speed, you can't go wrong.\n\nHonestly it's very tempting to make a play for this, because I have her '00 4Runner counterpart in black with 4x4 and 5speed. What a wonderful doomsday pair they would make. \n\nAlas, I'm out of room on the Deathstar and simply can't kick neither the Runner nor the NSX out into the Arizona elements.
