In 2021 I did some research into the IMS issue and I concluded to leave my IMS bearing as-is.\r\nHere\u2019s why:\r\n1.\tFor the M97 S engines (3.8L), Porsche revised the IMS bearing starting with engine serial numbers M97/01 68509791 and onward. The engine in this car is M97/01 68514271, which indicates it should have the updated, larger bearing.\r\n2.\tThe reported failure rate for IMS bearings in 997.1 Carrera S models is very low\u2014around 1\u20132%.\r\nWith those two points in mind, I felt confident that this wasn\u2019t something that needed to be addressed.
