We bought it from a San Francisco second or third owner in early 2018, with the goal of creating a multipurpose daily driver/auto-cross/track-day car as a father son project. It was a lot of fun, and my son had a very cool first car to high school and college, which is nicknamed \u201cAbner\u201d. But Covid and college got in the way, and the car never saw its intended purpose. In the end, it was too nice and too small to be parked on campus or taken to San Francisco. But we had a lot of fun with it, and never hesitated to drive it anywhere (it does require a battery tender to keep the battery fully charged when stored for long periods of time). When we bought it, the Carfax was clean, but we could tell it had been involved in a minor front end, left sided accident, as the nose, and the left side of the car had been repainted, and the paint was not an exact match, but the car was straight, tracked well, and was the great base for a fun build. I installed brand, new Mazda, OEM projector beam headlights ($900/pr), new brake pads and rotors, $2500 fully adjustable coil over suspension, Bolt-in roll bar with fire extinguisher, new dash vents, new 949 wheels with RE71R tires, new Torsen LSD, redid rear wheel bearings, new Robbins cloth soft top with glass window, new clutch assy, braided master cylinder line, and resurfaced pressure plate, new 6spd shifter bushings, full race alignment, etc. All fluids were changed and flushed, and it was a no expense-spared build. Of course we lost money when we sold it to John, but that was not the point. The father-son build experience before and during the Covid pandemic was priceless. I still have the original 16\u201d Enkei curb-rashed wheels with street tires in my shed, should anyone be interested.\r\n\r\nJohn has continue to improve the build, and taking it to the next level, with additional chassis, bracing, fantastic, new seats, a re-painted new nose, etc. Whoever ends up winning this auction will have a very, very nice 2002 Miata SE dual purpose car. Cruise control makes boring stretches of freeway tolerable. And the new vents really helped to direct the AC exactly where you want it. You can dial the suspension as soft as you wish regardless of seats, the Miata cockpit is small, so they are only a few positions you can be in while driving. of course, this was with the prior seats.
