I've had a few Cobra Jets and they are no doubt fast, but it is actually easier and cheaper to pull more HP and Torque out of a 351 Stroker than it is out of a CJ. You can take a stock 351 Windsor Block up to 427 Cubic Inch and it will out perform a modified CJ on the strip. I was amazed how powerful the 408 I had in my Mach1 was, and it was easier to work on in the car. I still love Cobra Jets, I'm guessing something happened to the original CJ in this Mustang and a decision was made to change things up a bit, the T-5 Borg Warner's can be built to handle some pretty good HP and Torque. Converting the car back to its original configuration would be a relatively straightforward job for a good Mustang shop, plus one would always have the option to sell or trade the 408 engine and transmission (both with under 500 miles, thanks to the car mostly stored in my garage.
