(kinda of the way I feel these day) And you know, I still didn't care what people thought when they looked at it, I just drove it like it was meant to be driven. I may have blown the engine and had to rebuilt it by hand, I stripped the rear pinion gears and tore it apart and replaced it, replaced the clutch hydraulics and the all the transmission synchro rings, I even tried to make the body look better, and later I rolled it. That car was my self taught school of practical mechanical engineering. When it seemed like it wasn't going to run, I still found a way. 50 years later memories of those lessons still keep me going.\r\n\r\nIf had the space I would teach that same lesson to some grandsons. Big dents in out rigger supports and damage near the radiator. This damage can be pulled out/straightened & not something of huge concern (other than cosmetic). The trunk (boot) floor looks to have some issues, but this would be expected in even the best survivors. But it isn't WD40 for our tissues- its movement which will be uncomfortable and challenging, especially to our ideas about getting old. \r\nOne of the reasons I keep my old English car is to routinely test my back for getting in and out. Also for checking what its like to get my hands in the right position to adjust a clutch, find a loose wire etc. \r\nKeeps me and the car going well. \r\nThis car looks like a perfect candidate for a careful get it to run and then fix things as they break over the first few hundred miles. Never put them in the car again. Now get a big fire extinguisher and keep it handy. Remove the spark plugs and squirt some mystery oil into the cylinders. Leave the spark plugs out. Drain the oil and then fill the engine with 20-50 Castrol GTX. You can change the oil filter at this time as well. Go under the cat and disconnect the wires to the fuel pump. Tape the ends so they don't touch each other and so the hot wire doesn't touch the chassis. Now get a battery and attach it to the cables. It is positive ground. Disconnect the coil wires at the coil and tape them as well. With the plugs still out, turn the key and see if the starter motor will crank the engine. If hit works, only crank if for couple of seconds. Squirt some more mystery oil into the plug holes and then crank it again. Then give each cylinder another squirt and let it sit overnight. Now disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel tank. Remove the line from the fuel pump. Now reconnect the fuel pump wires (make sure you don't mix them up) and turn on the ignition key. If you hear a ticking, then your fuel pump is working. Now rig up a fuel line with a connection that will fit the fuel pump and attach it to the pump. Stick the other end of the line into a jug of high test gas. Now turn on the ignition key again and while the pump is ticking, look around for leaking gas. There will be leaking gas. Fix all the leaks and then try it agin and then fix the rest of the leaks. Repeat until you can turn on the key, hear the fuel pump pump a few times and then stop. Now crank the engine for a minute to let the cylinders blow out as much of the Mystery oil as possible. While you are cranking the engine, keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge. Keep cranking until the oil pressure starts to build. Next, clean a up the Mystery oil that the engine blew out. Now install new plugs, new wires, distributor cap, rotor condenser and points. This is best done with the distributor out of the car. Make a mark on the distributor that lines up with a mark that you make on the distributor clamp before you remove the distributor so you can put it back in the same spot. Once the points and condenser are replaced reinstall the distributor to the exact location you removed it from. Don't mess it up. Now instal the new rotor, clip on the distributor cap, connect the new spark plug wires to the plugs, and reconnect the coil wires to the coil. If the car isn't outside, push it out now. Make sure the fire extinguisher is near by. Turn on the ignition and make sure the fuel system isn't leaking. Pull the choke cable out as far as it will go without breaking it. Now turn the key to the start position. When the engine starts it will make a lot of smoke as it burns off the rest of the mystery oil. Keep the kids in the house. Check the oil pressure and listen to the engine.
