Not surprising, it's a race car, and they rarely stand still as manufactured for long if they are to remain competitive. By the roll bar sticker, it was accepted to the Monterey Historics which is significant. Historics founder, Steve Earle would not accept poorly presented or out of period modifications. The photos of the car with fender flares in the log book date back to 1972, when the SCCA started issuing log books. \r\n\r\nMany older race cars suffered from gross bodywork modifications to allow for much wider tires, including my Lotus 23 in 1968 through 1977 where it had been poorly modified. \r\n\r\nH Mod cars were a great engineers' class where there was significant engineering freedom allowed builders creativity within the displacement and minimum weight rules. H Mod and G Mod were some of the most hotly contested classes of the period. If you were fast in H Mod or G Mod, you could be fast in most anything because they were momentum cars with excellent handling.\r\n\r\nDolphins were unique, cleverly engineered and very technically advanced cars for their time in both G Mod and H Mod classes. Dolphins were the equal of the Cooper and Lotus in period. It was very competitive racing through the sixties. The history below is very impressive and very typical of the class and time. These cars are time capsules of race car engineering creativity and craftsmanship. Mr. Crosthwaite was a very clever engineer and knew how to develop and optimize his designs.\r\n\r\nThis car stayed in H Mod for most of its career which is really desirable. Many other cars of the period had larger engines stuffed into the engine bay and met untimely ends because the chassis were unable to take the extra torque or weight. It's good it didn't get cut up. My Lotus 23 went through multiple evolutions from a 1100CC Cosworth MAE \"screamer\" to a 1340CC Lotus Twincam, later an Alfa twincam to eventually a 2 liter Pinto. The gent who rescued it from obscurity restored it back to a 1600cc Lotus twincam so it meshed with the vintage race run groups. It's humbling to be a caretaker to one of these brilliant cars and great fun to drive them on track. It still has the original paint on the chassis. I do want to mention that the car has been sitting for a long time and will most likely need a rebuild on the hydraulic system.
