This beautiful 1963 VW ragtop bug came to me in Sept 2018 thru my buddy Ben, as partial trade for my Euro 1968 911T coupe. I saw this car on a Samba ad late 2011 & immediately advised Ben to buy it, which he did. Much of what you see was done by previous owner Hunter W of Concord CA including the all important 356B drum brake set up, the 1776cc motor by Volks Authority & the classy CSP dual cannister exhaust system. Unfortunately, soon after Ben took ownership of the car, the motor seized so he took it to Bugformance San Jose for a complete rebuild ( receipts in gallery ) to the same 1776cc specs. Needless to say the car is now trouble free with less than 4,000 miles on the rebuild. We added the 356 style rims with Vredestein Sprint Classics 185/70/15\" tires with racing long studs & Carrera spacers in the rear, lowered the car & threw in a stock front beam to complete the look which I fondly call \" Gentleman's Beetle \". To answer few of the questions: Car is an original ragtop model ( not grafted ), I guesstimate HP to be around 75 to 85HP conservatively but it cruises 75 to 80MPH with ease. The whole pillar flexes a little when the door is shut too hard and the metal cracks from fatigue. The correct way to fix this is a few shots with a MIG welder and then metal finish and paint. If the crack was not welded it will crack more and continue to pop off the paint. This is an incredibly gorgeous Beetle and if I had the space I would have to own it.
