However, chance would present me with an opportunity to score a Mk IV Supra, which I did not miss out on. I see someone has already declared this the superior car to said Supra, but all the objective testing of the day showed who was actually boss (hint: it wasn't the FD). Still, this has more to do with what you want out of the car. The Supra (despite being the superior performer) definitely has a layer of insulation over the controls versus these FD cars, and there's a lot to be said for the sensation you're actually going faster even when you aren't. I think that's why I enjoy my 1991 Civic Si so much, it's just a bare bones experience with a responsive, \"plugged right into your spine\" kind of chassis. Anyway. I've supported my Dad over the years with this, and to my amazement (and probably from a lack of putting miles on the car or driving it hard) he's needed no major service. His car runs incredibly well and doesn't exhibit any signs of premature degradation of the seals. During these years I've become VERY cautious and skeptical about who touches the major mechanicals on these vehicles. I've learned the very hard way (someone blew up my motor doing a coolant flush!) And I've been incredibly hesitant to take this car to a random shop nearby to perform a compression test on a motor they have never seen before. My local Mazda dealership has informed me they can\u2019t test. All the major servicing I do is performed about 3 hrs away in PA at SpeedOne. I believe many people are afraid of the rotary motors. Lots of power out of a small displacement. They are built from the factory to burn oil to lubricate the apex seals. Many know this but your average car enthusiast may not. There are many less moving parts in a rotary compared to piston types. But with a lack of knowledge and the fact you need to rebuild them more frequently even when treated well may scare some off. \n\nI myself love the rotary engine. The idle sounds great out of the tailpipe to me. I tend to like them stock or close to it though.
