The rubber bumper GT was only imported for that year and then the importation was stopped. The MGB's with the large rubber \"blocks\" (Sabrinas) were the first of the 74 cars.....you can look up why those were called Sabrinas...!?!?! There are differing reasons I have heard....it did not pass the roll over test for a coupe...maybe other reasons also? Think there were around 1100 and some numbers of these cars brought in. They are worth seeking out as the engine bay was modified for the V8 engine. The only modification need was to remove the radiator supports and add ones from the later models. But before the age restrictions were lifted (25 years I think) there was maybe one or two of the MG RV8 cars that were imported...one from the Cayman Islands. So now no problem to import an original MGB GT V8. I own a 1979 MGB with the same transmission, this whine is normal for GM T-5 . I also no the person that builds the transmissions for this MGB GT. AND MY 1979. GM T-5 IN AN NORMAL VEHICLE HAS MUCH SOUND SUPRESSION BUILT IN FROM FACTORY . Under normal condition you don't hear gear hotel. All mgb/ gt cars came from the factory with under dash card board liners, most all cars over time these are gone, thats why you can look under the dash and see wiper motor and all sorts of wires and equipment. You can order under dash replacements made out os abs plastic. These installed will dampen much of the whining if get on you nerves. My 1979 mgb has a buick 215 approx 230 HP WITH A T5. Also have 1980 Mgb LE with a FORD 347 STROKER 400 HP with TREMAC 5 SPEED Gear whining is the same as the T5 Transmission. Nothing wrong with either of these cars. I'm not a expert but have had mgb's for 35 years and a total motor head. I too have a MGB V8 with a BW/Tremec T5 and my gears are nice and quiet. In some instances, a transmission is rebuilt using gears and layshafts from other transmissions... taking what seem like good parts from an otherwise worn out transmission. Good used gears switched around from other transmissions that had a problem to build one good transmission will not mesh correctly (quietly)...but they will work. Also, If a layshaft gets too worn from low oil, then the trans will whine in the first three gears. The gear actually gets thin and sharp on the edge rather than a nice flat topped edge. This is a real big problem for the Rover/TR8 LT77 transmissions. I have personally rebuilt many of each when I was a tech for British Leyland, plus MGB units. I have looked very closely at the pictures for this auction and I see a dangling wire in a suspension shot, cooling hoses and overflow tank hoses missing and so on. Are there different valve covers in the video vs the pictures? The inconsistencies are questionable. I would want to live pretty close to the seller on this one. So together with the front springs the GT is one inch lower than a stock rubber bumper GT.\r\n2. In 2014 I picked up this drivetrain from Mark of D&D to do the initial installation in another MGB. That was removed this last winter for a power upgrade and I purchased it from the owner.\r\n3. The differences or inconsistencies.......the Offenhauser valve covers I installed, but found them to leak. I removed and replaced with stock Rover valve covers. The Offy valve covers do come with the car.\r\n The lack of cooling hoses, \"dangling wires\", interior photos showing that the interior is not completed were included to show parts of the car as the conversion was underway. Thought that would be self evident?\r\n4. The whine of the gearbox. I have done a few of these MGB V8 conversions and all of the T5's I have installed (all were always rebuilt), have had a whine to one extent or another.
