I felt very sorry about her circumstances and vowed I'd never put my wife in that position. That box shielded the wooden dash trim from sunlight. Thus, there is a 'shadow' shown on the subsequent picture which is slightly darker than the rest of the trim. The Odometer stopped functioning a few weeks before owner #4 put the car away for the 2014-5 winter season. (documented in one of the printed sheets). He stated the car was driven a couple of times after he noticed it stopped, for less than 20 miles each time. I've driven it well less than 1K since it left the winter storage facility (Park Place in Portsmouth RI).\n2. The cigarette lighter and receiver do not work, but a NOS lighter and receiver that I acquired a few weeks ago will be included with the sale.\n3. The AC/blower switch has occasionally been erratic the last two times I drove the car. In researching it, I found these are notorious for failing. Via the e9 Forum, I was able to purchase one of the last 2 NOS OE switches in the US (maybe world). My comments on each of these:\r\n#117 is a picture of the coolant temperature gauge. Overheating has been a problem for some e9's. This car has a larger capacity radiator than OE, and I've never seen the coolant temp needle any higher than it is shown here. The pix was taken on a 90+ day with the AC running full blast in early August.\r\n\r\n#118 and 119 are pictures of the rear corners of the hood. It was difficult to get good pix due to the high reflection of the paint. Look closely at the dime - at the corner behind it is a blemish in the paint. I understand someone had raised the car on a lift with the hood up, the corners of the hood struck the ceiling wallboard and small chips came of these corners. This is a 'not so good' touch up. There are NO stone chips of any kind on the front of the car. \r\n\r\n#120, 121, and 122 are pictures of the ONLY rust I could find on the car when I bought it 4.5 years ago. There were small bubbles at three places just above the chrome trim. When i replaced the left rear window motor, I had access to the inner quarter panel. There are bolts holding the trim to the qtr panel, and that was where the rust bubbles had formed. I treated the area from both the inside and outside with Corrosion X, a product that dissolves rust and is well known as a great product to protect electrical conductors. Since that treatment, the bubbles have essentially collapsed and are much less noticeable now than before the treatment. Picture # 123 shows the entire area, putting it in perspective. \r\n\r\nThere are also some faint scratches on the sunroof panel, but I could not get pix that would demonstrate that. \r\n\r\nThe rest of the paint, as far as I can tell is perfect, and again, the small 'bubbles' were the only rust on the body. Very slight surface rust on some of the underbody, but nothing significant there either. Strut towers were perfect when I installed the NOS Koni shocks and OE springs this winter.\r\n\r\nFinally, I want to comment on pix #14. When I saw it i nearly fainted. it looks like the area behind the left front wheel is a mass of chips! In chatting with guys at the 'car' conference I'm attending, someone asked about why I was attracted to this particular car when I bought it. My response was essentially 'quite a few things, but primarily it was because the last bodywork/paint that had been done on the car was at that time over 20 years old. In 1985, I bought a MB 280SL that was being restored by one of the larger MB dealerships in the mid-Atlantic region. Took delivery when the restoration was complete, and it looked beautiful. Fast forward 18 months and rust bubbles started to show up in several places. Vowed then and there to never buy a fresh restoration of a rust prone car again!'\n\nAlso, I used the 'old school' test of engine health for rings and valve seals when I test drove it. That is - after the engine has been fully warmed - accelerate to about 5K rpm in 3rd gear, then let up on the accelerator and allow the engine braking to decelerate to about 2K rpm then floor the throttle again. Any oil consumption will show up as smoke out the tailpipe. This car had NO smoke. I did the same check again in June, and same result. It's lost - I'll try to repeat:\n\nThe trunk seal is in excellent condition. I've only washed the car once since owning it, and that was after I drove it home from RI. It has never been in the rain since I've owned it. All subsequent baths have been with spray detail wax and microfiber cloths. There was no indication of H20 ingress in the trunk or around the doors after that wash. There were a few drops on the inside rear of the door windows (but not as many as I recall having with the '73 I had from '75-'82 which was 'just as delivered'). I have since replaced those rubber window seals that are on the rear windows, so i may not even leak there now!\n\nThe door, hood, trunk seams look right (and uniform) to me but I've never measured them with a micrometer. Does anyone think Karman built bodies in the '70's were perfect when delivered? There is no indication that I've seen of front end damage. And I do not know if parts other than the door were replaced. \n\nI have no records regarding use as a rally car, only oral comments by the 4th owner, good friend of the #3 owner who paid $50K for the restorations. I found #2 owner was an IMSA driver via a Google search of his name and address. I only suspect the right door was damaged when the 3rd owner bought the car and sent it directly to Motion Products for their superb restoration work. I have records of #2 drivers registration for the car, and sale of it to #3. There are a lot of invoices etc. from the restoration shop and for mechanical upgrade work, but not a lot of details regarding the work. The owner and the shops had a fairly long standing relationship, so trust would not have been a problem.\n\nIt appears to me that the rear seat footwells may have been replaced, There are welding seams around them as I recall. F and R footwells are very solid. The undercoating throughout the underbody is very uniform, and probably applied by Motion Products at the 1984 restoration. New replacement parts would have been available from Munich in that era.\n\nI think it is worth reflecting that in the early '80's, 10 year old e9's weren't worth very much. I know, as I sold a '73 e9 with triple DCOE 40 Webers whose only 'warts' were a couple of small bubbles in the paint at the bottom of the front fenders. As I recall, I paid about $5,500 for it in 1975 (22K miles)and sold it for about 9K in 1982 (55K miles).
