In some of the pics you can see the stock airbox is in place which is a very good thing for proper engine runability. \r\n\r\nThe curious thing is the hose from the crankcase breather/check valve to the airbox has been deleted. In its place is one of those filters that vents to atmosphere that are usually only seen in absence of the stock airbox. \r\n\r\nThis has me scratching my head as the entire bike seems to be built by someone who knows what they are doing. Deleting that hose means you lose the crankcase scavenging effect the airbox vacuum provides. The closer you can come to a vacuum inside the crankcase the better. Those filters make an oily/misty mess not to mention a stinky stationary idle. \r\n\r\nSeller what\u2019s the reasoning behind setting it up like this? Were this bike an 03/04 I would almost understand since those years have a great big ugly contraption on the right side of the engine. This can change air fuel ratios and gunk up the intakes/ filters and air box. All race bikes I have seen run a crank case breather that vents to atmosphere (not into the air box) there is no added benefit by having crank case venting/ blow by at high RPM dump into your air box... It gunks things up with oil mist and you do not make extra horsepower by running it into the air box. Thus this breather kit works great and keeps the air box clean and the intake air clean and consistent as well. \n\nUnder the battery box cover is the factory plastic battery tray. Battery is in stock location and the factory heat shielding is still in the factory position as well. The heat shielding has been painted in a black ceramic paint to firstly, make it less noticeable and also to add some more heat protection. The long and short of it is that PCV is implemented for emissions purposes, HP will be the same venting to atmosphere vs PCV provided similar venting conditions/outlets, and you're not going to be pulling significant vacuum to affect HP such as with a true vacuum pump that serious drag machines use.\r\n\r\nWith all that said - just because a racing team does it doesn't automatically make it the best way to do it, especially for every application. Racing teams are subject to a rule book, so the Ducati race bikes may have ran a closed system simply because it was mandated. I could see this as racing bikes are subject to much more abuse, constantly at higher revs, and experiencing higher G forces than their street-bike counterparts. With the crankcase breather outlet located right in front of the rear tire... well you could see that fine oil mist might create perilous conditions for the rider and others on track if there was serious blowby or saturation of the filter medium not checked by teams.
