Two of my '86 300zx's have 249k and 258k on them and my 3rd and 4th ones have 54k and 176k so these will last you a long time. It is nice to see the original window sticker and invoice still present.\r\n\r\nNote to the next owner--if you look directly behind the driver's side headlight door (see pics 97 and 98 that is the AIV valve assembly and for your own sanity I would disconnect the little sub harness sitting perpendicular to the AIV. As the car ages the little rubber gasket material may break up and get sucked into the air intake assembly where it will come in contact with the hot wire in the air flow meter (AFM). When that happens your Z will idle all day long but will not allow you to place a load on the engine.\r\n\r\nMost repair shops will see a code that points to a bad AFM and after replacing the AFM your car will run fine for a short while until another piece of gasket material makes contact with the hot wire in the AFM. I learned this the hard way with my first '86 300zx hardtop. At the time I had owned the car for less than a year and while driving back from FL my car started to act up. Luckily I had a smart mechanic who had dealt with this before. Prior it being towed to his shop the small tire shop where I had to park the car on my way back from FL to MD had run their diagnostic and of course they suggested replacing the AFM. \r\n\r\nHe replaced the AIV assembly which is an emissions device along with the AFM and on day one we unplugged the AIV. \r\n\r\nI would also recommend replacing those under hood vacuum lines at some point. My '86 300zx with a manual transmission had 54 lines and while I was at it I replaced them with silicone vacuum hose. The smallest size is 3.2 mm and you will need a bunch of it to complete the job. The most challenging lines are the ones that pass through the firewall and under the dashboard. I had an '89 Z31 that was the same exact trim spec, except it was a 2+2. It was the 3rd of four Z31s that I owned, and the only 2+2 - as well as the only automatic car I purchased for myself. I saw it sitting in the back of a shop I used to go to for machine work, and asked about it. Turned out it was owned by the shop because of an unpaid brake job from years prior, so I made him a deal and came back later to get it. Took a bit of effort to bring it back into shape, but I loved doing stuff like that at the time. \r\n\r\nI especially like the dark trim - not quite black like on the turbo - more like a matte dark grey, but maybe I am not remembering correctly. Either way, a huge improvement over the normal NA Z31's bright trim. I assume it was something special for the final model year.\r\n\r\nSpeaking of that, one funny thing was because of the build date, when I would go to parts counters - half the time they would assume it was a Z32. This was before you needed a VIN to get parts. I guess there were not many built and the timing matched the Z32 but I am not sure. The only changes I made to it were to replace the muffler with one slightly more open, and installed a set of '87 turbo wheels - the dark grey 16\" that look very similar to the factory 15\" it came with. \r\n\r\nIt was a great car, and a lot more fun than I ever thought an NA Z31 with an automatic could be. I kept it for a while because it had been sitting so long. After restoring it back to clean and cat-free, it sort of passed around my family for a bit until I felt like it had proven itself as a reliable car, and I sold it to fund other projects.\r\n\r\nAh yes the vacuum lines.. One of the funniest memories was when my brother borrowed it for a road trip up to OR from CA. He came back pretty \"heated\" because it was the middle of summer and apparently every time he gave it some gas, it would start blowing hot air out of the vents. Apparently the climb up Shasta was particularly brutal. Apparently not wearing pants at a rest stop creates some particularly awkward moments, but I will have to take his word for it.\r\n\r\nAnyway, great car. This one for sale is SO MUCH nicer than mine was, and with really low miles. Mine was running great with 165k miles when I sold it somewhere around 2001-2002. Interesting story with the time in Germany. \r\n\r\nI am not sure if Nissan is still doing this, but it looks to me like this car has not yet had the injector campaign recall. I say that because I am used to a few pieces of bright yellow tape on the main injector harness on the passenger side of the intake manifold, but it has been a few years for me. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can comment there. If it is available, it is really nice because they do a ton of work for free.
