After some initial looking my transmission guy had to pull the unit to find the cause which ended up being a torn lip seal inside of the transmission. He gave me a good enough price to also install new clutches and steels along with everything else required to call it a rebuild as opposed to just changing that defective lip seal, so I had him go ahead and do everything. I've seen plenty of things happen to so many low-mile vehicles that have to do more with time and lack of use than actual mileage. I was never able to source a correct 2-barrel carb and manifold and that is part of why the car hibernated for a while. Objectively speaking, for the AMERICAN driving environment, a 77-79 Delta 88 (or Chevy Caprice) were equivalent to a 77-79 Mercedes 280SE/450SE/SEL. (Admittedly staid) Consumer Reports rated the 77 Caprice on par with Mercedes as the best car on the US market. CR used to list \"Advantages\" and \"Disadvantages\", and for the Caprice, it wrote \"Disadvantages: None important enough to mention\". There is only one thing I would change. I would change out the Holly carb for what looks like a straight in 4bbl. Q jet replacement once that adapter plate is gone. Even though the Q Jet didn't come with this car you might be able to get by at an AACA event, or an OCA event without a penalty or rejection. This vehicle appears to have a Gen2 Olds 350 intake, so the 4bbl. Q jet fits perfectly and what's more it gives better acceleration and more importantly it's small high velocity primaries give excellent mileage which is something the Holly and that adaptor plate can't do. Besides Q Jet is G.M. I believe this engine only produced 110hp and the standard engine, the Buick six produced 105 hp. but torque is the important aspect here though. The six only produces 185 ft. lbs. but the 260 produces 205 ft. lbs.
