I had a mk1 that was totaled after hitting a deer and after cheating with an STi for 6 months, I went for one of these. Getting in, I immediately felt I was home - which was funny as my wife said the exact same thing when she got in it for the first time. It kinda sums up the car - it was as special as the original just a little bigger and grown up. \n\nI've said on here how great the original was (especially in period) and the same applies for the 2nd gen, except everything was a little better. They made great daily drivers and GT cars - again not the most outwardy sporty car but sporty enough, while being extremely livable - they asked nothing of you as a car; ie you didn't have to compromise (unless you wanted to carry adults in the back). \n\nAs a driving experience the 08 was much better than the mk1, that VR6 sounded subtly throaty when pushed, with just enough roar to make it known it wasn't a blown 4 but in typical TT fashion, not enough to be annoying.\n\nMine had the mag ride and it made a nice difference between comfy and stiff. I always expected it to make it rock solid but while it stiffened up proceedings and the handling turned up a few ticks, it still rode well. To this day I still remember vividly one specific drive in it, when I drove it hard and it did nothing but ask for more (which incidentally makes writing this easier). It just felt more planted and less twitchy than the original.\n\nMine had the DSG and it was a decent gearbox, but I'm sure stirring your own gears would only add to the experience. \n\nAs with all quattros, it was exceptional in all weathers - just make sure you don't get caught running summer tires in the snow (I'm pretty sure there is some lady in Harrisburg still having nightmares about the black Audi that gracefully pirouetted around her at an intersection....). \n\nAs these and the Mk1 get older, the everyday usability of them fades as they become garage queens but as a fun car that doubles as an excellent GT, there isn't much out there to compare it too. I still miss mine a lot and regret getting rid of it so I'd have this one in a second, if I had somewhere to put it......
