The differential is a 3.50 Positraction limited slip, gas tank is custom made and about 20 gallons. This car is far from a stock 1800S, with a GM/Ford drivetrain/suspension, custom fuel tank, radiator and heater/AC system. What those changes do to the stock 1800S are significant and unknown as far as durability and reliability. Cool stuff, if you like such resto-mods, but I wouldn\u2019t really call this an old Volvo anymore. Certainly not pure Scandinavian design as the sticker notes in pic 47. Stickers are easily removed though. If you want to see what a stock 1800S looks like and how the front and rear suspension are changed, look at one of the previous 1800S auctions here on BaT. \r\n\r\nI have not heard of any stock 1800s catching fire in a rear end collision. The stock engines and drive trains on 1800s certainly didn't supply power to match how fine they look. I made some mild engine mods on my '67 1800S, but nothing like this. I just don't have the skills. It sure looks like a clean job of it.\r\n\r\nThe hood scoop isn't exactly ugly, but that probably could have been avoided by going with fuel injection instead of the massive Holley carburetor. I would think it would be feasible to switch to FI now and lose the scoop.\r\n\r\nI wonder about not having anti sway bars. The original suspension had a front bar, and these cars are notorious for body roll. Lots of the 1800s have aftermarket bars with good improvements to handling. This car has totally different suspension, but it looks like the front end would normally have a bar. There are mounting points for one. Hard to say from the photos if there is room to install one. I think the suspension would have to be very stiff to not need bars.\r\n\r\nIt is an interesting choice to go with a fuel cell to increase capacity over the stock ~12 gallon tank. A fuel cell has nice safety factors, but they have a relatively short lifespan. I've heard someplace that they are not street legal. Worth checking it out. Easy enough to switch back to a gas tank if there is a problem.\r\n\r\nIt's a cool car, for sure. No doubt it goes well in a straight line with the extra power.
