I want to be very transparent; the seller is a friend of mine. I have known he and his family for a number of years, I have known this car for a number of years. I have ridden in this car many times. I had several occasions to drive it in the past too. If you\u2019ve followed any of my auctions, you know I am an air cooled Porsche junky. I have owned several dozen over the last 30 years and countless others have passed through my hands. I know these cars well. \r\n\r\nOne of the things we all know when buying a classic car like this is the clich\u00e9 that \u201cyou\u2019re not just buying the car, you\u2019re buying the previous owner\u201d \u2026. This car has been lovingly owned by the current family for many years. Great pride and care have always been bestowed on this car. Its not been a garage queen, its been enjoyed just enough over most of the years to keep everything spry and lubed properly. We thought about shipping the car across the country for me to list, in the end the expense could not be justified. We discussed a lot of aspects of the auction and took a good long time to commit to selling the car and then to produce the video, do the pictures and tell its story. Even after all that, the seller had cold feet and we pushed things back until he was good and ready to sell the car. \r\n\r\nI wanted to point out a couple of things. When we were talking about the videos, I mentioned the same thing I harp on in all the videos on any 915 gearbox car I list here. The true tests for a really good 915 gearbox is the 2 to 1 downshift while the car is at speed. You can see in the video how nicely this car makes that shift while moving at a good clip. The other test is the 2 to 3 and 3 to 2 shifts. Again, the video does a great job of showing those gear changes at a number of different speeds. If these cars have a weak spot, the 915 is it. A well set up 915 is a great unit, Porsche won a LOT of races with 915 trans cars. This is a very well set up 915. That also speaks of the quality of the rest of the car. \r\n\r\nThis is a full leather car, that was pretty rare for a 911 in those days. Full leather dash, full leather door cards. One of the other little telltales I look out for when a car has the full leather dash is the condonation of that leather. I know that BaT says the dash is warped but its really a bunch of nothing and the leather is not pulled or split. It\u2019s a sure sign the car was well loved and cared for. If you don\u2019t oil that dash and cover it up when not driving, you can bet that after 40 years in the sun the leather is going to be hard and split in a number of places. Again, its just a little sign about how well loved this car has been. \r\n\r\nAs I said at the beginning of this post, the seller and his family are friends of mine. I\u2019d love to see the car go to someone who will treat it as well as he and his family have. Sure there are some nits people could pick about it. (month of manufacture is NOT one of them) Over all it\u2019s a very nice driver, that\u2019s mechanically in great condition, in a fairly rare color which is a desirable color, and its got some pretty cool non Fuchs wheels.
