The attached emails indicate that it was purchased used with 3000 miles to the tune of $90k (were these selling for over MSRP?). Maybe it was used as a display vehicle by the selling dealer, maybe the PO\u2019s memory is foggy on that point, lost to history at this point... Carfax picks it up as a one owner and they\u2019re usually pretty good at identifying when a dealer takes a car in for sale if it was a 2 owner car. Again, neither here nor there at this point.\nAs the story goes, the husband past away not long after acquiring this car, and Lauren remarried a guy (Mike) that was not much of a car guy. The car ended up escaping the garage a brisk 550 miles a year. We called and confirmed that those records are no longer available. \r\nOwned a number of 996 Pcars; the car feels tight and engine extremely smooth. @Mercyhealth Appreciate your kind words and will try to post a video of the car running tomorrow.\r\n\r\nNow here\u2019s what\u2019s interesting and something I did not know existed... This is a replacement 3.4 liter M96/01 engine (pic 156, M96/01AT66X67222 @fehrevilo), but with the non-serviceable style IMS that would require the engine case to be split to replace, like in the 997.1 engines. We had this car apart to do the clutch, IMS, and RMS; pictures 164-168 attached showing the IMS is non-serviceable. Does this mean that Porsche decided to redesign the 3.4 liter engine for there replacement engines?! The IMS rabbit hole on this one runs deep. But one thing is for sure is that if this engine\u2019s rebuild/replacement occurred during or after 2006 then Porsche usually put the latest greatest technology in. In that case it would have been the larger single row. These bearings were not the same problem that the smaller single row or even original double row bearings featured. Which had most but not all the failure issues. The pictures you supplied are definitely the larger single row version. \nYour car appears to have a good service history and I would be confident that you have done all the things necessary to prevent bearing failure. The only permanent solution would be the oil fed IMS solution designed and patented by Jake Raby. But I\u2019m not sure this could be fitted in this engine. Picture 157 shows a clean and dry bottom of the bell housing. The rest of the story is as I was told, and based upon the character of the original owners I have no doubt that it is truthful. Appreciate you reaching out through the DM option. To answer your comments, all systems work well. The rattling was a couple plastic pieces that are on the soft top latch. We didn\u2019t hear an rattling during the drive, but the camera must have picked it up. The car runs exceptionally well and is very smooth down the road. No mechanical rattles. No original wheels, that would be cool. These are nice though in my opinion.\r\n\r\n@RWClark \r\nI must disagree; the depreciation curve has gone substantially up in the past year. We are no longer at the bottom and upside is what\u2019s in sight.\r\n\r\n@noncommittal\r\nPer pic #178 the engine was replaced \u201c6 or so years ago\u201d. Even if up to 10 years ago, that puts us at within 3k miles on the new engine. The non-serviceable bearing is a fairly new design for the 3.4, so I can see that being within 6 years.\r\n\r\n@mikeor\r\nWe dropped the transmission with the intention of replacing the IMS, RMS and Clutch is something to do while in there regardless if needed in my opinion. It turned out it was a non-serviceable bearing. RMS was leaking a bit regardless, so it wasn\u2019t a complete waste. Why it was leaking on such a new engine? Probably lack of use.\r\nRe- \u201cEscaping Garage 550 miles a year\u201d I\u2019m just going off information I received. Beside the passenger seat, the story fits. Was likely sitting next to a window that dried the passenger seat out; will likely restore well with a number of conditioner coats, but we have not tried.\r\n\r\n@ralavis\r\nThank you for your comments. You only play yourself if you don\u2019t (no snipping here).\r\n2. Have good internet and 2 sources to monitor activity (I.e. Doesn\u2019t cost you anything, that function disappears at auction end, and ya never know if having contact with me after auction close is valuable!\r\n\r\nHere is why you may want this particular example:\r\n1. First year production Pcars usually bring more money as they become collectible, and ambers were a one year production deal for 996. \r\n2. Rare color and nicely optioned (Porsche world, this matters a lot).\r\n3. Extremely low miles (you can feel it in the drive) and an even lower mile engine. If you\u2019re looking for one to drive, this one has a lot of life in her.\r\n4. I have good knowledge on 996s (see my previously sold cars) and do my best to make these cars right for the next owner. We inspect and I drive these cars to makes sure we\u2019re addressing issues the car may have had or would develop. Also, I do this more as a hobby than as a form of income; car guy helping other car people (not to mention, get to experience cool cars), so don\u2019t get involved in traditional dealer \u201ctricks\u201d.\r\n5. I\u2019ll do my best to make this a positive experience for the winner.\r\n\r\nCLOSING THOUGHTS:\r\n1. IMS Bearing- I wouldn\u2019t let this concern me at this point. 997.1 do not have many engine failures, and this is \r\n2.
