It has lived outside year round since I bought it. I cover it during the winter and pandemics but during driving season it stays uncovered. It does not get driven in the rain or snow. Mine is Impulse Blue Metallic and over the years the paint has faded - it's getting through to the primer on the roof. Some of the trim is weathered but still very much intact. \nThe windows have been tinted since new and I put up a sun visor when parked for more than a couple hours. The interior looks as good as you could expect for any 15 year old car that's lived outside most of its life could. There's no plastic broken inside, the dash isn't cracked, the seats aren't torn - not even the back ones because of the tint and I keep a black towel over it to keep the sun off. Folks who've never been inside one don't realize the quality of the materials is actually very good, especially for a non-luxury brand. Keep the MSRP in mind when comparing it to other cars. It isn't a Mercedes but it's leagues better than a Grand Prix.\nOverall, the build quality and reliability has been very good. No unexpected repairs required short of driveshaft center bushing failure but that won't leave anyone stranded. As a car head I really got a kick out of the Aussie car culture and had some great experiences, including a crazed demo ride in a Holden Commodore R8 homologation car by the sales manager at an HSV dealer in Canberra.\r\n\r\nI bought an 04 GTO on the last sales day of the calendar year, walking into the dealer an hour before closing. I got a Pulse Red 6MT for $26K, the sales staff wanted to get out for their New Year's party. I've done that several times, lots of incentives for a dealer to close out the year with another sale, regardless of price. I removed the spoiler (Yankee bling) and scattered some Pedders pieces around to firm up the suspension. Really loved it and always considered a great mistake was made trying to market under a muscle car nostalgia theme. It's simply not a \"GTO\". I kept it about a year which is my habit. Great to see one in time warp and I'm sure the market will only support a level that makes this a great candidate for driving and enjoying for a number of years.\r\n\r\nIn 2009 I bought one of the last 6MT G8 GXPs in dealer inventory, got me a discount yet again and that was truly a great car. That generation Holden Commodore was subsequent to the Monaro/Commodore platform used for the \"GTO\". Little known is that the Camaro was a shorter wheelbase adaptation of the G8 generation chassis. I used a few Camaro aftermarket parts in the GXP, including an MGW shifter, in that enjoyable year. The only real cooling issue on these cars are the weak plastic end tanks on the radiator that are known to crack. Obviously that can easily be replaced with an aluminum radiator which a few companies make . Now the only known issues that you may have seen in regards to the 2004's are the gauges freaking out, and it would peg the temp gauge. I drove the car on long trips and around town and had no issues other than the radiator which sprung a leak like several of you mentioned. This was a quick fix, plug and play and suggest that who ever buys the car to make the change out right away. You don't want to be left stranded along the rode or in my case the Phoenix airport upon returning from a 3 day trip to a green puddle under my car. As far as collectors and value, the 2004 is the least desirable as it has the 5.7 liter engine vs the 6.0 in 2005 and 2006. The listed car is an automatic (which is faster) but again less desirable to those who like to drive with 2 feet. My GTO's life ended when I was t-boned (my fault) and at the time could not find an equal replacement. I would buy the car if I didn't have so many already. This car will drive for ever, and is sure fun to drive. What a change!\nIt had about 13,000 miles on it and in Sept. when I decided to sell it, she had about 15-16K miles on it. I had a lower spoiler on it along with a set of aftermarket wheels and tires. Made about $2000 from the 1st person who came over. GLWTS!\r\n\r\nI graduated college in May 2004, about 6 months after the 04 GTO landed in the US. My parents were nice enough to buy me my first new car as a graduation present (cheap in-state school!), and I had been seriously excited about the forthcoming GTO (after missing out on the 4th Gen WS6 Trans Am). They even thought about putting a deposit down in late 2003 to surprise me, BUT, dealers were asking somewhere around $40k+ with the markups (IIRC, $33K MSRP). I ended up getting a very nice V6 6-speed Accord coupe, and let the GTO idea go.\r\n\r\nWell, flash forward to the end of December 2004 and the GTO was a bit of a flop, and the 2005s were coming (with hood scoops and 50hp more from the LS2). Like @Valiantjim it turned out the dealers were antsy to move the 04s. GM had a $5500 rebate on the car, and as a GM credit card holder, they were offering an additional $5000 on top of that. $10.5k off without even negotiating. (Incidentally, they had the same deal on the Chevy SSR pickup/hotrod and the brand new Cadillac SRX crossover/SUV - not the greatest new product launches for GM that year)\r\n\r\nMy dad can't pass up a deal, so he agreed to trade my Accord in on a new truck, and I spent the week between Christmas and New Years hunting down a 6-speed car. Locally in FL, most dealers had perhaps 1 GTO left, and then only automatics in yellow or purple. I called an ever widening radius of dealers and couldn't find a 6-speed that wasn't purple (with the polarizing purple leather seats, purple door accents, and purple gauges - wasn't my color in my early 20s, but approaching 40 that's the color I'd chose today!). \r\n\r\nFinally I stumbled onto a dealer 600 miles away in rural South Carolina that had 3 GTOs left, including my first choice - Black with the red interior & a 6-speed manual! We had a short negotiation with the dealership - we were not going to find another one, and they needed a buyer in the next 2-3 days, so final price was around $23k with the rebate and GM card spiff. \r\n\r\nBut then my dad hit upon something even better - GMAC never dropped the residual values on the GTO leases. A 2-year, 36k mile leased 2004 GTO had a residual of $19999. A $3000 difference from our purchase price. Add interest and tax, and I leased my Goat for something like $188 a month. Best automotive deal I'll ever get. \r\n\r\nI had a ton of fun with the GTO - it was my first real performance car. Highlights of my 2 years of ownership included some very hot \"parade laps\" at Road Atlanta, several epic burnouts, and driving all 2500-ish miles of Route 66! I actually met an Australian couple in Seligman, AZ who were quite tickled with my American \"Monaro.\" My favorite bit of GTO trivia is that they came with a long-range spare tire that could be driven on for something like 2500 miles, or basically the distance from the center of Australia to a coastal city.\r\n\r\nI still keep an Autotrader alert for a Cosmos Purple car, and I've seen a few rough ones around $8-10k, so I may try it again one day!\r\n\r\n@mazda2924x The interior looked cheap & boring, but it was probably the absolute best quality GM interior (short of Cadillac) at the time, and boring was better described as restrained compared to the typical swoopy-dash, plastic-clad Pontiacs that preceded it. The build quality was great too. Certainly night & day compared to the 2002 Firebirds. \r\nThe other great bit about the interior was that all 4 seats were useable by adults. It took a bit of folding to enter the two rear bucket seats, but once you were in, there was great leg room and the miles just melted away, even for my 6ft, larger, frame. Really an ideal 2-door sporty car with kids.\r\n\r\n@Land_Ark As nice as the interior was, my paint wasn't so hot either and was starting to have some clear-coat peel after just 2 years. Nearly every daily-driver GTO I've seen nowadays has split stitching on the top of the rear seats from sun/heat wear.\r\n\r\n@Valiantjim RE: the German rivals; Motor Trend's May 2004 cover story was Two-4-One, suggesting that you could buy 2 GTOs for the price of a conceptually similar CLK55 AMG coupe, and it might not be the worst idea.\r\n\r\n@RWD-FTW - I never got the hate about it being a \"real\" GTO either? Understated coupe with Corvette power, sounds like what the GTO was before the psychedelics kicked in the late 60s! \r\nHowever, it was the crest of the retro styling revival (Thunderbird, 05+ Mustang, PT Cruiser, Prowler, HHR, SSR, Ford GT, Mini, Beetle, Z8, etc.), and GM went all in on unclad Pontiacs and Art & Science sharp-edged Cadillacs, so I guess the market spoke. Vortech Superchargers took the car and put a blower, iForged wheels and Wilwood brakes all around on it. Got all of it for free. After adding Alkycontrol, larger exhaust, cam, injectors, SLP shorty headers etc had it tuned to 600whp. Did more suspension work. The weakness for track oriented folks is the limitation of rear tire size. I think I could only fit a 275 back there. Loved the car though, super fast, super easy to maintain and quite comfortable. Late in the 2004 model year they couldn't sell them, I paid 25,000 for a new one from the dealer. I have been around less than a year, but I have yet to notice one relisted quickly. I imagine it could be a tough sell to BaT, since most of their income is from cars actually sold, and they want to keep the site fresh. I have seen some relisted after several months, sometimes with some fixing done in the meantime and with lower or no reserve.\n\nBaT provides the seller with the high bidder's contact information so they can possibly work a deal. While the auction is still live, there is a Contact Seller button. If you have used that and the seller replied, you will have their email.
