Super rare as well in 7 liter Series 1 combination. The front end of the original design is more balanced that the later series with the revised headlights. The raised hood design is distinctive but the painted Targa bar (if it was done at the factory) is a nice touch to lower the roof line. I've seen that treatment before on later cars but didn't know it was available on the Series 1. \n\nLots of careful work performed here to a very high level. These are not easy cars to restore. They are every bit as complex as a Lusso and even though the engine is American iron, don't be fooled by the ease of parts - getting all the details right and impossibly hard to find trim and emblems adds up fast. \n\nBuy one done to this level and smile while driving. These are among the most beautifully designed cars ever made and you will almost certainly never see another at even a larger concours event. I have been following the car since Ralf N. started the initial restoration in Germany, it was done right starting from a (typically) rusted out German Grifo. In 2015 I saw it with most of the rear body cut off, which was then restored in a very professional manner. Unfortunately just like Ralf I didn't get to see it once fully finished and poring over previous auction pictures I (of course) noticed several items it could improve on. But like Raffi stated these are (very) hard cars to restore correctly and this one comes AS close as possible with what they had to work with. For instance; the factory trunk mats of these Grifos are unique and once lost or deteriorated there is no material that can exactly replace them (yet). I use a material that comes closer to the original but they did a very good job on that here. Obviously very elegant solutions to very complicated problems in Grifo #240.\r\n\r\nPeople who know me know I prefer to restore Isos and Bizzarrinis back to factory specifications as I see these in the same realm as any classic Ferrari or Lamborghini; unique, hand built pieces of Italian automotive art that should not be customized. But that is just my opinion and so I keep running into cars that got restored in ways their current owner wanted. That is fine of course as the owner is the boss but this one is done right and can, with few minor mods, stand the highest scrutiny. \r\n\r\nThis Grifo should have the \"IL\" coded 1968 427 with 390hp and hydraulic lifters. But aside from the front pad stamping (which will be hard to show because of the compressor in place) even more important is the casting DATE code behind the distributor - I would like to see that even more. The front pad stamp might even be removed when this motor was decked so that cast date code always does it for me.\r\n\r\nSo this restoration has my OK (for what that's worth) and even though a Grifo Targa sold here well on BAT not too long ago we will find out soon whether this is the right venue for high end, correctly restored Grifos like this as they would demand higher prices but at the very least it will show / introduce more \"car people\" all over the world how gorgeous fascinating these cars are. And if anyone has any doubt about how they drive; very few classics come even close to these so that should not be a reason to keep you from owning one. Mainly I am taking the car back to an original Iso color and go through (motor out) all the mechanicals that needed attention.
