That included a couple of Ford published shop manuals specifically for this military spec tug. I don't have them anymore...sold them when I gave up the tractor hobby. But if you search ebay diligently you can find one.\r\n\r\n@clueless_jalop \"No automatic exists for this vehicle\".\r\n\r\nMostly correct. Ford offered a clutchless, shift-on-the-fly 10 speed transmission in those days called a \"Select-O-Speed\". They came out in 1959 and were used up through 1964. While not a true automatic in that it did not shift from one gear to the next without operator input, it did eliminate the use of a clutch and increased the available gear ratios. USAF tow/tug tractors and was never an opinion on any other ford tractor model.\r\nThere is no clutch but, in its place, is a pedal that when depressed diverts hydraulic fluid flow (generated by a hydric pump) from the torque convertor back into the transmission case. And when released diverts hydraulic fluid flow to the torque convertor, so that when the foot throttle (on the right side of the transmission case) is depressed the whole system acts like an automatic transmission. This unassuming aircraft tug was built in great secrecy outside of Rostov on Don and designed to be an opening move in the chess match that would become World War 3. Correctly understanding that a retaliatory strike by American strategic aircraft would be suboptimal, the KGB hatched a plan to sabotage key aircraft tug battalions at SAC bases in the USA. The FODR was the result.\r\n\r\nThough it was a copy of the Ford 621 on the line the lovely thing was named Fyodor, meaning \"god's gift\". That name was initially difficult for the Kruschev regime to spin, but the workers at People's Tractor Factory 562 were very well organized and would not allow it to be named a FORD, even though it was going to be in USAF service. The local education and indoctrination wing of the party, which had spent a lot of time explaining how savage Americans were, (and perhaps over selling the fact that things like Dostoevsky and basic spelling were beyond the ken of such a lot) were forced to accept the tractors as FODR's. A mid level party bureaucrat decided to make the letters removable instead of welded on as was the normal practice. After the tractors were snuck into the USA ( a laborious and difficult enterprise, the letters were switched and they hid in plain sight. \r\nThe plan to use these was dastardly. The loaded B-52 carrying the Mk. 39 hydrogen bomb was fairly heavy. When the command with a secret switch was given this powerful 4 cylinder motor would shed two cylinders and become an underpowered lump. The retaliatory strike would be foiled as the planes could not be pulled out of the hangar in time and missed the battle.
