I've got the window sticker on my '68 4 door GT. It was over $2500. 1968 was the first year of the crossflow. 10.5 to 1 sounds high for compression on pump gas. Jay Ivy made my 1968 9.5 to 1 for pump gas. That was also using the later uprated block and the full Heron head. It made 135 horse on their engine dyno though. @RWestW As to copying the 510, well, the 510 was launched a year later than the MK II Cortina, late '67, vs late '66. That said, a Datsun 210/610 Master Cylinder is a straight bolt on except for the metric threads and tube routing. \n\nThis is probably the best looking MK II I've seen for sale in a pretty good while. I've owned MK Is and MK IIs. I prefer to drive a MK II, although Roy Brown, Jr., the designer of the Edsel, did redeem himself with the MK I in my opinion. \n\nGood luck with the auction. When I purchased my GT Ford even made available performance parts for the engine, transmission, and suspension. My car has antique Delorttos, but they worked ok with a 1600 Pinto or MK I Fiesta fuel pump. The Wipac back up lights are still there. On my '68 they are manually operated by switch on the bottom of the dash. Don't know if that is stock, but I think so.\r\n\r\nI like the dash upgrade on this too.\r\n\r\nI think those orange shocks are Koni. Koni will no longer admit they made shocks for a Cortina. My '68 has them. Sent the front inserts to KONI America for rebuild after they started leaking with 25K miles. Koni America revalved them for autocross, and made them externally adjustable damping as well. They won't do that any more. Haven't reinstalled them. Still using some Boge Turbo Gas located in the interim. \r\n\r\n'67 has coil over conversion in front with KYBs for a Volvo, as I recall. \r\n\r\nThese are Hooligan cars in the UK. I think a total of five including a wagon that a local academic brought back from his Oxford sabbatical. It had 40K miles on it but the automatic trans was baked. I bought it for $40 and the local Cape Cod junkyard pretty much held all the Cortinas sold on the Cape with mechanical components nearly free. Got a replacement trans for $25 and drove that car for several years. It had a massive euro roof rack that defined the car and I still remember an epic camping road trip through the Maine woods, following the Penobscot river valley through the private Weyerhauser timber forests. Get a road pass at the company headquarters in Bangor and sign the waiver for liability if run down by a company logging truck. So the junk yard was filled with low mileage Cortinas because the brilliant front end design of Ford engineer Earle MacPherson included a fatal flaw for US rust belt use. The inner fender mounting point for the full strut suspension load was several layers of sheetmetal stamping that captured and trapped salt-slush and rotted completely out in just a few years. Struts would blow through the unit body and buckle the hood as the front suspension collapsed in an otherwise nice looking low mileage car. What I did with the UK origin wagon was turn the used oil filter upside down on the strut mount point everytime I changed the oil. All the other junkyard fatalities supplied me nearly free parts for years. Some parts, like rear brake cylinders or off the shelf GT Master Cylinders are tough to get, but there are rebuild kits. Cortinas are pretty reliable and durable, except for the tinworm. JAE recently had a sale on recurved distributors with electronic ignition. Jeff, who retired from there, was a Cortina guy, and found me my '68 4 Door GT. He retired to New Zealand, I think though. Everybody who loves Lotus Sevens, and Elans is into Cortinas. \r\n\r\nI've never seen a Kent powered 70s Capri in the USA. Two liters, and Cologne V6 is all I've seen. I've gone through a number of fuel pumps, and find a 1600 Pinto to be the best fit. MK 1 Fiesta works OK too, but the hose has to have an ugly routing. White with a black accent stripe. It had been a race car and after repeatedly fouling the plugs that summer, it had to be detuned. There was also a Lotus Cortina on the campus \u2013 we never raced. It was a fun car to drive. The brick streets near the TCU campus in Fort Worth destroyed the suspension and he took it back at the end of the first semester. And sent me back in a BRG Mk. 2 Cortina GT. I drove that car for 5 years. I was always having to explain to folks what an English Ford Cortina was. On one trip from home in San Antonio back to Fort Worth, I heard something happen under the hood and the check engine light came on. I figured it was the fan belt. Turned out a pulley had disintegrated, taking the fan belt with it. I don\u2019t remember how I found a phone but I called Dad and he had a pulley and belt and came and rescued me. Fortunately, I had only gone about 35 miles from home. Another time, fall 1971, I slipped away from classes mid-week to drive the 200 miles to Austin to meet friends for a Grateful Dead show. I was almost there, passing through Round Rock on I-35, when I heard a noise under the hood and the check engine light came on. Fan belt. A Ford dealer was on the other side of the highway, so I thought I might be in luck there. It was chilly, drizzly and for some reason, I figured I\u2019d take a toke or two before launching off on the trek to the dealer. I noticed through the drizzle a car pulling up behind me and so I quickly snuffed out the J. And then I recognized the car as my dad\u2019s! Oh, sh*t! Busted! Wait \u2013 he should be at work in San Antonio \u2013 and I should be in class in Fort Worth! What are the chances that I\u2019d break down and my Dad would appear? We were both playing hooky! We both were busted! Turned out he had gone somewhere around Waco to pick up an old Elva Courier and was towing it home. I hopped in his big old tow car and we went across to the dealer. No belt in stock. We drove in to Austin and got one, drove back, installed it and went our separate ways. I don\u2019t think he smelled the smoke. Dad went on to setting up a Mk 2 Cortina GT to race around Texas in SCCA races, painting it a garish purple. I don\u2019t think he was ever competitive with the Cortina, like he was with his 970 Mini years before, but that was not the point. The camaraderie of drivers and the joy of wrenching his own car were the main thing. He stopped racing when he turned 70, but kept wrenching up to his passing at age 96 \u2013 5 years ago. I\u2019m sure he used to have any part this Cortina would ever need. My Cortina served me well, but living in Texas, I was ready for a car with air conditioning and Dad\u2019s mechanic friend tipped me off to a \u201969 Mercedes-Benz 250 sedan 4 speed in great condition.
