I owned one for 6 years and put quite a few miles on it. My R1100s had the infamous BMW surge because it was mapped too lean. I rechipped it, which made the bike run better, but it never ran right. But it had fabulous torque and could cruise at triple digits for as long as you could get away with it. I called it my rapid transit device. It could cover ground. The brakes were superb and it was very nimble. Most wonderful were the hard bags, which snapped on and off easily and carried weekend necessities for interstate travel.\r\n\r\nOther than the BMW surge, the bike had problems. Although valve adjustments and spark plug changes were easy, every other service task was designed to be difficult. It had to be intentional, because everything was so consistently difficult to service. I also had a 1988 K75 and every service and repair on that bike was designed to be easy.
