Good observation, I actually have never seen a turd in a swimming pool thank goodness, lol. The engine bay, yeah it was cleaned up some obviously, and I mean the engine, valve cover, carb, aircleaner, fan etc. The original owners grandson, 16 at the time, went spray paint happy, he badly did it with red oxide spray paint, no one told him they made masking tape to tape off things either, lol, he tried a little body work in areas, that I show in the video (I do hope you watched the video). I do give him some credit though, its hard to find kids these days interested in these old rigs, all they want is a tuner honda these days, but he wanted to learn, his grandpa had passed, and he took interest in the FJ, so grandma was pretty excited that he put down the video games for the summer. I did rub down some areas of the paint, so I could see that it was all one color overall, and yes I think it looks pretty cool, next guy might patina it out a little more honestly. Believe me though, this thing has natural Patina all over it obviously, look at it,lol. It had a lot of thin spots already, didnt have to work to hard at it. I did forget to mention, that he did get a little carried away and paint the fire wall gray, and I mean lots of stuff grey, we cleaned some off, like the tag, you couldn't even see it. It never sat at the coast, but yeah it is dirty with lots of surface rust underneath. I think what happen is it was a 65 model, and did not sell until the 1966 model year so DMV titled as a 66 model. I used to call it a 65 as well, then instarted calling it a 66. It obviously it has all the traits of a 65 model, which I really like personally. I am more of a early FJ40 fan, more raw and rustic! Old Chevrolet 6 cylinder had an optional oil filter canister and it was held off the side of the engine and the hoses ran to it from the engine in and out back into the engine. The FJ engines were basses off the old Chevy engine design for the most part from what I have heard, and it was an option to get a filter system, like a dealer add on. I have had two previous old trucks that didnt have oil filters. Actually they were both chevy\u2019s. One was a 58 1/2 ton and another was a 2 1/2 ton farm truck that we used to haul hay.
