The gearboxes for all of the later Alpines from 1959-1967 will all fit right onto the OE bellhousing. I doubt that there is anything inside that is salvageable. All of the Rootes 4 speed gearcases have the same basic shape and an identical bolt pattern, so a unit from an Alpine from 1959 or later should fit. Gearboxes from the Hillman range could also be installed I do not believe that the column shift mechanism from the original gearbox could be transferred. \n\nThese early Sunbeam gearboxes were laid on their side (rotated 90 degrees to the left) so that they could be set up for column shift. a popular conversion in the day was to rotate the box back to the right so that the shift cover was facing up. A new cover was installed and the car would be a \"sportier\" floor shift. This was called a \"Castle\" kit. It is interesting that this car doesn't have overdrive as it was my understanding that most of the Alpines did. It would have been a Laycock \"A\" type. Nice to see that they are present. Bodily it appears to only be missing the front valance between the body and front bumper. These are shared with the entire Sunbeam Talbot 90 range, so shouldn't be hard to source.. All the brake parts are shared with the MGTD, so easy to source. some of the trim parts can be difficult. The Series Alpine gearboxes will fit nicely and the remote shifter will fit as well by modifying the drive shaft tunnel. I rotated my gearbox 90 degrees and fitted a floor shifter from a Commer Cob (or Hillman Husky) and now have the normal \"H\" shifting pattern. Just a suggestion for those considering bidding on this Alpine.
