We did drive some awful junk back then but didn't know any better. In the 50-60s most governing organizations required an original full steel roof and that eliminated As, 32-36s completely and hence most from that era were 37 and up Fords and Chevies. I'm sure the actual history of this car from 31-96 has long since been forgotten but there are no indications this one ever had a history of just turning left. The builder does make mention that when he got it the story was that it had been a drag car at some point and that is quite possible. Doug built the car around SCTA rules which required the roll cage, this one has two; the permanent 4-point with the head rest and the bolt in driver only that is another 4-point with a door bar and attach points for a 5-point harness. The car also has the remote battery shut-off, fuel shut-off(updated) and the mentioned driveshaft loop. Another interesting item is the foot operated ignition kill switch on the floor above the column. In the vast array of photos there are many at Bonneville, some used in magazine articles, and one very cool shot of the builder, Doug, with the car at Booneville along with Russ Meeks and Gene Winfield, a couple of icons in the race car world. Someone mentioned the 9\" Lincoln axle. This one is a work of art not only narrowed 7 inches with all kinds of support welded on it, but those huge 3x12\" brakes and Strange Engineering axles. The housing is a little different than Ford 9\u201d. The pinion support is larger. \r\nMost were I believe what ford called traklock. Very few parts are interchangeable with the 9\u201d except the carrier bearings. \r\nThere are no new parts are available for these third members. Meaning no alternate ratio choices. This one will probably never fail due to it\u2019s inherent strength. But if it ever does you just swap it for a 9\u201d. Correction on an error I made, the tail lights are 50 Buick and there is a spare set of lenses. This little car starts, runs, drives and stops as well as any and I'll bet better than most. Even while in Canada it was never in permanent storage as in a museum but rather went a few miles every month whenever conditions permitted it. After the revamping this last year it was driven a few miles to check everything over and then parked on the battery tender. Fuel was drained from the carbs/lines thanks to the quality of fuel we have today. Thanks to the electric booster pump it would only take a few minutes to have this car running again. After that it will run on the mechanical pump just fine. I'm sure on the trips to Bonneville it may have seen a little inclement weather but has not seen any in the time I have owned it. Thinking back to Mike Rs possible dirt track comment in the pile of photos and magazine articles we have with the car there are some shots of the car running at an Old Timers Meet at Williams Grove back in the early 2000s. In those shots you can see Doug was having a good time and a little bit sideways. Also a good place to attach the parachute. We got some PMs with questions that others might have. Yes, the back of the seat is adjustable to offset different altitudes(height) or attitudes. The steering column is a 64 Chevrolet with a tilt feature. That same car supplied the brake pedal, master cylinder and ignition switch. The switch on the left of the column is the dimmer switch which does have an indicator. That is a small glove box which flips down under the passenger dash. Yes, I still have the flat, finned block off plates for the headers you may have seen in other photos. The shifter does in fact work backwards to operate the B&M turbo, Park is all the way back and low is all the way forward. It has been like that since day one. It could be reversed I suppose but why. No heat or AC, it is a hot rod. Yes, that is a dead perch on one side of the front spring. Commonly used on sprint cars back when Lincoln was president it eliminates the need for a panhard bar.
