If the only details were that it had red internal coating and nothing else, then that would be far fetched. As I mentioned in the video, I am not saying that this is a BRE race engine Commissioned by BRE program, but what I am saying is that this engine was built by some of the BRE crew and the original owner confirmed that, and talked about Tilton everything is in line. You add that all up along with that Dyno sheet it tells you this engine was at the shop 100% all the other details, there has been a lot of time that has passed 45 years, so all the details get lost. I hope who ever gets this car continues to keep it an old school build and never replace that motor or other special things about the car. I am curious as to what kind of flare they used on the rear. A Bre flare does not have a rolled under lip and they also extend to the body line in the rear. Also anyone who puts a remote filter on any car usually uses that same one on this car, it's just a universal remote still sold anywhere today. And if you have a 510 you mount it on the shock tower. Am I hearing the seller state that this is a actual BRE build? Or just the engine work. Maybe the engine but nothing on the car that I can see. Yes I am saying the engine was built by some of the BRE Crew members, which I already knew from the info from the original owner and him talking about Tiltons envolvement, was it built in the BRE shop or outside of the shop by BRE crew member(s), I don't know, this was 1974 when the engine started to be built, and the BRE dyno test in January 1975. Obviously Tilton had Tilton Engineering at this time but still had access or did work for BRE they were all with in the area, He did the Dyno test on the engine at BRE, but I would imagine they had all the equipment at the shop, so maybe he used some of the machines etc who knows. I am not saying and let me make this clear, that I think BRE built this car. I am not a smoke and mirrors type of guy and I think most folks now that, I am trying to put forth what it is. I think this car was built by the original owner, and he had some great help with some of the BRE guys mechanically from engine to trans and various other ideas to build his dream car. If I thought it was a BRE car I would say they built it. With that said this is as close as anyone will get when it comes to Engine work by a BRE crew member not that many around, from the information I gave Brock he said that with all the facts I stated and especially the brick coating that for sure he knows that one of his guys built that engine. It had NOS on it back in the 90's, this was when the guy was around 70 or so, I hope when I am 70 I am still playing with cars like this guy was. I don't think it was used that often, the guy at this time was just having fun. It was taken off around 5 years ago, but a local Datsun raceshop, he gave the stuff to them when they went through the engine. One of my workers that worked at that shop for many years was their when the car was there, and they took engine apart to freshen it up, the original owner always talked about the BRE connection, but it was not until they took the motor apart, and saw the dyno sheet that they realized they had something really special in their mist. The original owner talked about the crank, being a billet crank, which they never seen before either, the original owner said Tilton had said it was one of 6 cranks that were machined like this, at this time there were no 2ltr engines. the BRE race cars ran 1600 engines, and the Datsun roadster 2000 engine was completely different. Some people would put a L18 truck crank in these back in the day, but that still wouldn't give you a 2ltr, this crank is something completely different, all machined, no ruff surfaces on it. Brock didn't know anything about this crank, again this was 2 years after the Datsun BRE program stopped in general, so as time went the BRE crew members continued to modify and build as Tilton did, crank is unknown, but was installed prior to the dyno test. Pete Brock, told me that if he got the chance he would contact some of his old BRE crew to hopefully get more info. These guys are all in their 80 now, and some have passed so that might always be a mystery. Brock told me that he is confident that I have a engine built by his BRE crew, and that this is a special find. The engine never came apart until 5 years ago, just to do a freshen up of gaskets, etc. It was very important to Mr. Baker the original owner, that the car not be modified in anyways internally. One other thing he did not want to take apart was the gauges under the dash at that time, they wanted to fix that Oil Temp gauge, but he wanted to leave it, because no one had every touched that gauge cluster besides Tilton, he hoped to have him fix it one day, he is a very sentimental guy when it comes to period correctness about this car, especially since he was the one that owned it since new and had it built. The AC was the first to go aback in the early 70's it was dealer installed, so nothing is left under the hood, except the 2 ports coming out. I guess someone could put AC back in, but I wouldn't want to keep the engine in the same configuration as it was done back in 1975, keep it period. The Original owner bought the car new, lived 5 miles from BRE was in there all the time, checking things out, seeing all the cool stuff they were doing, following the racing, buying this and buying that. He then somehow connected up with some of the BRE workers, not Pete Brock and the original owner said he had Tilton build this engine for the car, who was the Crew Cheif and Cheif Engineer for BRE racing team this was 1974, they did final Dyno test Jan 1975. Original owner of the car for 45 years said they got the block and head built them, did the modifications, to the block, SSS head, balanced, did the modifications to the intake and various other stuff, did he build it in the BRE shop or at Tilton engineering, not sure, but obviously all the equipment to build engines were at BRE and Tilton and other Meembers were still doing stuff obviously and had access, but as you see the engine then made it onto the BRE Dyno machine, it's unlikely at this time Joe blow is going to have BRE run a Dyno test. Tilton ran the Dyno on it, the Dyno sheet filled out by Tilton also gives lots of detail you don't see on a Dyno sheet in general. I wanted to confirm this and get more info, so I contacted BRE, and told them all this stuff and more info about this guy, and after all the info, a lot of time has passed and things get cloudy for anyone on history, I get it, gave him the customer number etc etc. But after all the info, Pete Brock wrote me back, that indeed he knows that this engine was built by one of his BRE Crew memeber(s), I showed home the Dyno sheet etc etc, he congratulated me on a creat find. He didn't know what member built the engine, and he did not know about this special crank, but this was 2 years after the BRE 510 racing program was over. Original said that he was told at the time was 1of 6 cranks built by one of the engine builders. Then you wanted to question Pete Brock on the engine over the red paint in the engine, I think after Brock heard everything and the red paint it was enough info. The original owner said Tilton also built him the console under the dash, and led him on other mods for the car. We are talking about the heart of the car, the Drivetrain and the console. The owner from watching and being around some of the guys at the shop, in the day learned other things. No one is trying to claim that BRE built the car, I am talking about drivetrain excited by BRE crew members. It would be wrong of me to say Pete Brock built the car or him personally had anything to do with it. The engine was gone through in the last 5 years and it is confirmed that everything in the engine matches up with that build sheet, I show in the video the modifications to roadster intake, that was detailed on the build sheet. As for completing the deal after the auction, lots of new folks here on BaT, that's easy, well with me it is, after the auction BaT sets up their fee with you, I've already paid mine. We contact each other afterward, exchange information, you can pay me by Personal Check, Cashiers Check, or Bank Wire, Bank wire is the fastest and easiest transaction, as soon as you wire I usually have the funds within 24 hours, checks are fine but the back will put a hold on them, when funds are clear the car can leave, bank wire the car can leave pretty much right away. As for Paperwork, which is important, I show picture of the title, the Vin matches the vins on the car, see the 3 vin locations I pictured in auction as well, very important, not only for US transaction but overseas for sure, so everything is in complete order. I email you some documents, bill and sale and such and you sign them, email them back, then I Fedex or USPS signed confirmation the Title and any paperwork I can fit in envolope, the rest of items will be secured in the car when it ships. So sorry to be long just those are always questions that are helpful to folks especially since a lot are new to this awesome BaT experiance. Anything else, oh some folks wonder about how fast I want the car moved, I am very flexible, do what ever you need to, as soon as you pay and do paperwork, put insurance on it, I have in door storage, first 2 weeks are free, and $50 a month after that. Most in our crowd many years ago wanted the normal e-brake location between the seats and this is not too uncommon down in SW. I have known this car for almost 30 years as I have the prior owner. My best friend and also the previous owner's best friend, knows just about every bolt on this one. He was the last driver of this car with the prior owner enjoying the ride not very ago. During the wildfires of 2015, I made it out to visit in Salem and gave the PO a ride in my 510 I had stored in Portland at the time. I still have the pix of the two cars together with an absolute grinning friend. He hasn\u2019t been driving a stick for a few years regretfully. We had a good visit that summer. I ribbed him how he didn't have his up and running yet again. That last engine refresh and addition of the Mikuni's and a proper 510 grill were the last iteration. \r\nHistory: we were all part of the 510 crowd in Tucson. The PO and my best friend helped build and service my 510 and other SCCA Rally exploits. The PO was a character and the potential buyers from BAT are perfect for this car. This car has gone through many iterations on some things but the BRE crew engine was a central part of the pride of the car for the PO. DENWORKS has captured it well, not a BRE car, but BRE crew built engine and bits. FYI, that AC was hooked up then when it was in Tucson, let me tell you. And then was the period this car and the owner wanted something to vanquish my friend's 2.2L and Weber set-up. So in came the NOS. Yeah he ran it a few times. The owner liked to tinker and customize most everything as the new owner will see. We all laughed at his engine cooling hood with all the work it took but it is well done as folks have noted. And everyone should be happy that the VW grill and headlight system is gone. I never got to meet Paul Newman who drove for him at the time but I got close enough to look at his car and snap a photo of him 2 feet away. No that was not me listing the car!! It's still in my possession. Like I said I'm a farmer in the east who makes hay to sell and this has been one shitty summer out here . It rained all the time and have practically worked non stop in between the rain showers. Any way the car was delivered in May and was presented as it was on the website! The car has been tucked away into its new 40 by 40 shelter. Because of the summer and my work I've had very little time to drive it. It needs a bit of TLC in the tuning department. I'm not mechanically inclined so it needs to get into a shop. There is one shop up close to me that has/had experience racing these in the 70's and 80's and I've spoken to them and hope to get it in soon. I had the opportunity to take it to a show this weekend and it was a big hit. As you can imagine these cars are a rarity up here in Ontario. My plan is to leave the car alone and drive it as a preserved time piece. It's a great car and Jason was spot on! Btw no rust or mud!!
