I re-gifted it to a disabled Navy vet on a fixed income and he still drives it today. An RX300 is truly an indestructible vehicle. \n\nThe timing belt fear is mostly overblown imo. I have an 03 awd with 65k. Still on the 22 year old original timing belt and water pump. The absolute best Japanese specialty shop in the area refuses to change them for me saying wait until 90k. Meanwhile the car operates like new. If the belt does have a problem or the water pump goes bad change the components then. After deploying/retracting a jillion times the last 20+ years things wear out. \r\n\r\nA new oem Toyota/Lexus antenna mast will probably fix the issue for now. Whoever swaps the mast needs to know the proper technique as it is fiddly. Sometimes there is a broken-off part of the mast stuck way down in there which means total disassembly with hopefully a successful extraction of the broken bits. \r\n\r\nMore than likely the assembly as a whole is the original unit from decades ago which means it will never be as fast or as smooth as it was meant to be even with a new mast. The motor gets weak and the gears inside there that mesh with the mast wear out. \r\n\r\nMy 65k mile 03 has a new mast and it works okayish. Not like new. FYI for those bidding, hands down, the 1999 and 2002 were my best. More space in the back and the back side windows still give decent visibility. And, honestly, the placement of the cup holders in these older models is much more driver-friendly. This one has already had the timing belt replaced, right on schedule with the 90K service, which is impressive. My first 3 went well over 250K in miles and still had a lot of life.
