Although some people refer to these as an \u201cS3\u201d (never seen Roman numerals used...), the factory didn\u2019t. There are only two series of Fulvias; the Fulvia \u20183\u2019 was a running change to the S2 Coup\u00e9 (type 818.630). It\u2019s (virtually) mechanically identical to the early S2; the changes were mostly aesthetic (read: \u201ccost-cutting\u201d).\n\nThis one was first registered in 1974, but it was built around November 1973. The engine serial number is exactly in the right range, which makes it almost certainly the original.\n\nIt\u2019s definitely verde Cascine (named for a horse track outside Pisa). It's far from the worst of the Fulvia \u20183\u2019s achingly-\u201870s colors, and given that the \u20183\u2019 carpets tend to turn green, as they have here, at least you get a color-coordinated interior. \n\nTwo non-original items in that interior: a red switch at the lower left below the dash (no idea what it might do), and the shift knob is from an earlier S2; the \u20183\u2019 had a tapered plain wood knob, which is why there\u2019s a shift-pattern \u2018emblem\u2019 on the underdash above the ashtray. The engine compartment is also very original, except for some stray relays and some modern hose clamps. The trunk looks clean, and the jack, toolkit, keys, manual and documents are always a plus.\n\nAs I said on the Fulvia feature, because they're younger the \u20183\u2019 is often found in better condition than earlier Fulvias. I doubt the cylinder itself was damaged, maybe just the head, piston, and (perhaps) a valve. When a nut or other hard foreign object drops into a cylinder, it usually gets crunched between the piston and the head. Sometimes it gets spit out through the exhaust valve, sometimes not, then it can make a pretty loud hammering sound, and the head has to come off.\n\nBut I'm just surmising here, about my own car. In this case, only the seller or previous owner knows the facts. A 6.5\" width and the low-profile tires to stretch over them, will give you a lot of lateral grip, but they\u2019ll hurt steering feel and precision, as well as putting a lot of lateral loading on the suspension components.\n\nJudging by the number of guys who have posted on the Lancia forums looking for original \u2018Fanalone\u2019 suspension arms, you\u2019re far from the first to consider conversion to negative camber. You won\u2019t likely find any NOS originals, but there are substitutes that make it possible, but with enough guys looking, suppliers have come up with aftermarket fixes, though it\u2019s not necessarily a simple exercise.. You can lengthen the lower A arms in a couple of different ways: longer lower arms are available from a couple of suppliers in Italy (Ricambi Rosso Corsa or Rosso Corsa Italia), and you can find offset nylon bushings which purport to do the same thing. However, just lengthening the lower arms (i.e., moving the hub farther out) will mean that the drive shaft splines won\u2019t fully engage (not fatal \u2013 figuratively or literally), and \u2013 more importantly \u2013 it may not give you the clearance at the outer shoulder of the tire.
