I sold two of them in one month and thought Volvo was going to give me a medal. It was great fun selling Volvos back in those days, it was a great company to represent and a product you could believe in. Safety really did sell back then. ABS brakes were fairly new and I'd take people on a test drive and instruct them to accelerate to 45 mph (on a closed road) and bury the brake pedal on the floor and keep it there. After the car came to a safe, non-dramatic stop the husband and wife usually looked at each other, smiled, and said \"When can we pick it up?\" These days a stunt like that would probably land me in jail but back then it was my way of demonstrating what I thought was the safest car on the road. As I recall they came in two flavors, V-6 or Turbo'd 4 cyl. both of which were less than inspiring with the extra weight of these coupes. So I'd like to get behind the wheel of this one and experience the very capable chassis with adequate power. Seems like a well executed conversion and I bet it's a lot of fun. I loved the car as a Turbo 4, but the torque of the 5.0 really made it a blast to drive. And that sound.... \r\n\r\nThe kit is pretty comprehensive, especially the integration of the engine and chassis electrical harnesses. It made the car feel like it was built with the 5.0 drivetrain from day one. The iPd suspension bits really help tighten it up, and it was a joy to drive. Ford small blocks have distributor in the front, SBCs have rear mounted dist. which requires more clearance near the firewall. \r\n\r\nWhile I haven't driven the car much lately (hence the sale) I see no reason it wouldn't be up to road trip/daily use. Every now & then I'll drive it to work and arrive happy. Then I'll drive it for a few days, get distracted and drive something else. \r\n\r\nThe A/C blew cold last year (like pointy nipple cold), not cold now. So there's a leak somewhere. I meant to do a dye test but didn't get around to it. I was going to try one of those canisters but that wouldn't fix the leak, so I figured I'd disclose it. \r\n\r\nThis car was originally equipped with the B230FT turbo 4 and automatic transmission. It has the factory rear end, 3.73:1 non-limited slip multi link independent suspension.\r\n\r\nThe Newman & Letterman cars (and I think there was one more done for an Exxon exec) are awesome. They were built with crate engines and brand new cars (960 wagons). My car was done by a guy in a home garage. Steve (the builder), my brother and myself have put ~45,000 combined miles since the swap. The car has evolved over time. \r\n\r\nI interpreted the \"Porsche\" comment as Timo did.\r\n\r\nSome 780 specific parts are tough to find in good condition. Most front air dams have been damaged. This one isn't perfect but is better than most. I am also including a replacement leather for 1 (one) seat. This was my 2nd Volvo 7 series to Ford 5.0 V8. The first was an '86 740 Turbo wagon which was originally a 5 speed and became an AOD behind a stock 5.0. The wagon was my wife's daily driver when we outgrew her Audi 4000S Quattro. My son was in a car seat then. He is now 27 years old! How time flies.\r\nMy family and I personally picked up the kit for the wagon from Ross Converse in Maine. At that time, Ross was still building the Newman, Letterman and 3rd 960 wagons. \r\nThe seller here bought our 5.0 740T wagon when we decided to sell it. This is how we met and have been friends since. He later bought the 780, which later I bought back improved upon a bit, then IIRC it went to his brother then back to the Seller.\r\n \r\nI'm going on memory here the best I can recall.\r\nI purchased this car in stock form from someone in Maryland sometime in the late '90s. Mustang 5.0s were current and were being wrecked daily. Supply was good for low mileage cars. The donor for this one IIRC was an '89 or '90 GT 5 speed with around 40-50k miles. I installed new Edelbrock heads, Ford Cobra upper/lower intake, Ford shorty ceramic coated headers and a new Ford T5 trans.. After buying it back from the Seller here, I added a Ford Cobra ECU with matching airmass meter. I'm sure there are many other things I have forgotten.\r\nI always felt, this conversion made the 7 series Volvo a better and more enjoyable car. They are quieter, smoother with no 4 cylinder buzz and felt more planted.\r\nMy only criticism here is , I liked the red pearl metallic color much better on these cars.\r\nSomeone will have fun with this one. My 242 was 5.0L powered for 19 years, and swapped to LS3 2 years ago. I scaled both engines - the 5.0L with aluminum AFR heads. With ignition, fuel systems, exhaust manifolds, water pumps, balancers - but not flywheel - the 8.2\" deck thin wall cast iron 5.0L weighed 411 lbs; the all aluminum 9.2\" deck LS3 weighed 393 lbs. They are out there, but you wont see them unless at an event like this, at least in America like I said.\n\nIt's funny things are like that because whenever I go to these non Volvo/European specific car events, EVERYONE knows my car and EVERYONE comments about how they either owned one at some point or know and love that boxy European car style. I'll never forget the first day I picked up my 740. I drove 3 hours to the gentleman's house to pick it up. Its that famous 601 Red with black wheels. Upon 30 minutes of owning it, I get pulled over my a state trooper for going 5mph over the speed limit. Trooper comes up to my window, asks for license and registration and after checking it all, comes back to my window and says, \"Everything checks out. You know, I used to own one of these years ago. I absolutely love this car. Up ahead there are 2 speed traps...\" and then proceeded to tell me where the speed traps are haha! She knew I wanted to have some fun in my new to me turbo Volvo! It's not as if older Volvos are unknown, they are just hardly owned anymore which makes me upset sometimes. \n\nOlder Volvos are such great cars! These cars, the 200/700 series cars (including some 850 models) were TRUE performance vehicles. Swedish made machines bent on delivering safety but easily moddable to obtain incredibly large horsepower numbers. I mean, the redblock engines are basically tractor engines and can hold a lot of power. The aftermarket on these cars is fairly large with various vendors all over the world supplying what you might need as well as old collectors who grew up with these cars that have warehouses, garages, barns and storage units FILLED with parted 240/740 parts. Obtaining what you might need is easy and for the most part, inexpensive. \n\nOlder Volvos are relatively easy to work on, there is ample space to work with, plentiful modifications one can choose and just about 99.99% of the issues that have ever occurred with these cars have been resolved over the last 30+ years because at some point, someone else had the same issue like you. \n\nI would not trade my 740 for the world and infact, I am buying another 740 turbo soon with 78k original miles on it. These cars are truly underestimated vehicles capable of immense power and handling, that of which could rival many modern day high end sports cars and that is no joke. YouTube can supply you with various videos of Volvos pushing 500 and even 600HP. \n\nMy 744 currently sits at 250hp at the wheels. Nobody, and I mean nobody, suspects the power my brick has which is why I love it. Plus, heated seats in a car older than the entire Millennial generation is pretty nice :) \n\nI apologize for digressing.
