This car has no real rust issues. Nothing that I have seen would warrant that the car has anymore miles on it then the speedometer says. It is a quirky little car that really does bring smiles to most who see it wherever we go. It is also fun to drive around hearing the distinct exhaust burble from the MSS exhaust. The freewheel works well, but my wife cannot get comfortable using it. I disengage it if she wants to take the car out.I do follow the belief that you should buy the best example of whatever vehicle you are searching for. That is how we became the caretakers of this Saab. It is not a concours condition car, but it has been very well taken care of throughout its life. I apologize for the confusion about the 1.5 vs 1.7, the error was mine & I was fooled by the blue valve covers. The fuzzy dice was originally an air freshner our grandkids found & they decided it should be in our upside down bathtub looking car. In answer some of the questions, we changed the color from the original dull darker green, the engine runs like a sewing machine, transmission shifts correctly, freewheel works, brakes work, e-brake works (not sure if I would trust it by itself on a steep hill without turning the wheels towards the curb), Tires are a few years old with no wear showing (or dryrot), Rear brakes & wheel cylinders were changed about 2000 miles ago (probably been 10 years also). A few spares go with the sale, some used door panels, a starter needs to be rebuilt(possibly the original), some side molding trim pieces, a used windshield rubber surround, the balance of gasket set from when the heads were done, a Saab shop manual and a few misc items. The reserve has been met & this Saab will be sold to the highest bidder. I will be available until the auction is completed if there are any questions or concerns.
