This car was repainted in 1995, almost 25 years ago. It was built by a young gentleman in college, that loved 510's, and wanted to build is own. He had Fiberglass fenderflares put on it, which I thought was pretty obvious, I show them in the video, the back sides, but I guess some might have thought they might be metal, though metal you weld on. I was talking in the video about how they have bonded really well, no cracks, around them, from stress etc, like so many get. The only crack, is in the very front bottom corner on the passenger side which I point out on the lift, were it got bumped, by the valance. The paint is 25 years old. The car was actually really clean before they started, and he had it painted by Marsh of Twin Lakes Jaguar in Portland, he is pretty well known. Andy doesn't think it was taken all the way down to bare metal, he was taken down were it needed to be, but as bare metal he doesn't remember, he was off at school when it was getting done. The really nice thing is, this car having been painted 25 years ago really is in amazing condition, and really shows. Bad repairs, etc, would have shown by now, I am glad it is old paint, new paint scares me honestly. The bubble on the A pillar actually we believe is lead, after about a year it come out, sometimes the lead gases will do that, it would be a weird spot for rust, but until you broke it open know one knows exactly. It was been there for 24 years. He was suppsed to take it back, but time and life he never made it back. Funny thing is Marsh who I never met before come over to my house 4 weeks ago to look at a 58 Caddy Coupe deville I have, and he saw the Datsun, and is like I have not seen that car for years. I found out he painted it, he was so surprised after all these years to see it, he said it has held up well. There were no rust repairs on the car, no replacements, floor pans, rockers, trunk, quarters all were very good. After 25 years, about 10 years ago, it did start to develop some small bubbles in the rear rockers, as you can see. I suspect that the larger ones may need to be cut out and patches done, the smaller ones not sure. But I believe they all can be handled easily, and correctly, and spot paint back in. The engine as I talked about, is a L18, upgraded, Japanese import engine, with correct Japanese only W53 head. These engines. were imported with about 40km on them. It was put in the car, gaskets, etc etc, Andy honestly doesn't really know how many miles he put on it since then, he used it for a daily driver for about 5 years, and after that, cars shows, events, etc. So to say how many miles motor has not sure. He just loved to drive it. The engine runs good, sounds good, does not blow smoke etc. I did replace the valve cover gasket, and the front crank pulley seal, had the radiator out inspected it, and flushed the system, new antifreeze, new oil etc. Also replaced the oil pressure switch it was leaking. As for ignition, it is just stock, it has points, not petronix. Brakes were upgraded in the front to 200SX 1978, bigger rotors, and strut is shorter, so it allowed for suspension height so it did not compromise the feel of the ride. Modified cross member, as shown. It has shocks in the back, and drums in back, brakes look good all the way around. I have driven the car many times, and it is a fun car for sure. This is the type of car you could fly in and drive home no problem, cheaper to ship, but you could if you wanted to.
