Looking through the photos that were in the car and dozens of gas receipts in the door, this car was driven.. there's even a set of ski goggles and lock deicer in the trunk. With that said there are no issues with frame rot and the suspension has been completely rebuilt. Having another gt4 that had the same rust issues I know the work that goes into the body restoration. I'll add that I did NOT have the A/C serviced. The fan works but it hasnt been charged so if you're in a hot climate I would reccomend having the A/C serviced. Under my front panel you could see where they filled in the horizontal impression with filler and put the Ferrari badge flat on the panel just like yours. Another cool thing is every panel inside and out has the build number on it, painted or stampled and it looks like yours might be 188. On the inside of the front hood hand painted in big numbers you will be able to see the number if the inside wasn't sanded and repainted. It's a cool thing to keep if it's there. To be a daily driver for 10 years with a modest 13 k a year makes it more likely to be have flipped the odometer . Rust is not something to just let go and brush off. My mechanic had an opening to do the work to get her running and the engine/fuel system serviced but asked me if he could complete the rest that winter when he had time. I drove it a bit and both the brakes and clutch were questionable (the clutch in particular was worn enough that it was difficult to drive around town) so I parked it in my climate controlled storage and covid happened. Fortunately or unfortunately my love of cars and the boredom of the lockdown caused my collection to swell over 30 cars (wife thinks it's 5 :)l and I don't have the time to embark on another GT4 restoration now that I'm back in the office 5 days a week. She is a HIGHLY origional GT4 and deserves to be restored to her former glory (which is why I bought her) as far as the mileage discrepancy for the 200 miles between the service, this is an old school Ferarri indy and I'm sure he just used the old mileage- when I say old school he still uses a digital camera and stores photos on CD's. The mechanical / engine is frankly the least tricky area on these cars. \r\n\r\nThat being said and to echo your post, @MercMan2000, in addition to my below questions, I'd like to add that the $8k invoice is pretty indicative of a basic belt service at an indie shop versus the \"engine out\" description stated twice above. These are not engine out required belt services as the belts are right there on the passenger side with the indies and most dealers these days just removing the r/r wheel and a couple of suspension components to access. So, aside from the addition of the fuel pump replacement and the electronic ignition installation, what exactly was done to necessitate \"engine out\" work? There's no way the 45 hours covers an engine out outing. I don't see anything on the invoice indicating that any other non belt-job work was done like gaskets, cam plugs, cam seals, etc. for an engine reseal. Additionally, do you have any idea where they got those parts for this work? Based on the Ferrari club photos from LRP in the pouring rain and the ski goggles/deicer and gas receipts this car was driven and not a garage queen. These are wonderful and exciting cars to drive but they're not necessarily the easiest cars to drive around town (no power steering etc.) So i dont think he did 14k miles a year...if he did he had huge forearms :) As far as the rust/mats, having completely restored another GT4 (fellow GT4 owners can chime in here) but over time the backing of the mats and areas of the carpet start to turn to dust. In addition where this car is rusting is where these cars rust (I experienced the same exact areas of rust on my other GT4) I was able to aquire parts for the areas that couldn't be repaired. I will say it was time consuming to restore the body and repair the rust areas but it can be done. Lastly on the mileage I highly doubt the car has 140,000 miles... the car is available to see in person and aside from the photos feel free to have the car inspected to support the mileage as 37k. I seem to own a car that similarly mirrors the history of this one (it's just on the other side of the country). Mine was made just a few cars apart one month later, slightly darker shade of green, same interior. Mine was also originally owned by a doctor, and spent a huge amount of time in storage (25 years), and it now has close to the same mileage as this car (34k). When I bought it, it only had just a hair over 27k miles.\n\nWhat I'm seeing in the photos for this car are very consistent with my car\u2014except for the rust. And I'm certain the only reason that's different is my car is a life-long California car. My car was painted resale red in 1989, I had it repainted to its original color in 2022. The shop that did the work has been working on cars of much, much higher caliber than mine (Pebble Beach Concours winning cars, and many multi-million dollar cars) for decades. Once it was all sanded down, they actually phoned me and told me they couldn't believe the car had only one tiny spot of rust the size of a nickel. That tiny spot was in one of the typical spots the 308 GT4 will rust. As far as the car in this auction\u2026 yes, rust is concerning and needs to be fixed before it gets worse, but there's nothing unusual about the rust seen on this car. Unless you're buying an already restored example, you'd be hard-pressed to find one without rust.\n\nConcerning the interior, the previous owner had it re-dyed on my car and it looks amazing. I did uncover some photos of it before it had been re-dyed and the wear on my seats compared with the wear on the sellers car is consistent (and mine only had 25k documented miles at the time those photos were taken). Mine did not have the large worn hole, but many do. In fact, most of the cars I looked at when I was shopping had that same wear spot. This is very normal and probably should be expected, this is thin leather. The wear in the carpet is also consistent with mine and many others I've seen.\n\nGiven the age of the car, location, history, and any documentation the owner has, the mileage looks to be 100% consistent with its condition. The sad reality is a lot of folks don't drive these cars regularly. Even the original owner of my car said he used it as a daily driver, but he only put 12,963 miles on it during his three years and four months of ownership. The subsequent four other owners combined before me only put 14,059 miles on it between 1979 and 2021.\n\nSimply put, for me there's no red flags with this car. The condition is consistent with the age, history, and mileage of the car. It's very, very original \u2014 and that's a hard thing to find with these cars. There's some documentation in there that's extremely rare and hard to find. I mean, how many people know what car the original owner traded in to buy the Ferrari?? The records show a Citroen SM was traded in for this one!!\n\nIf I didn't already own one, or if I had the space to keep two of these cars around, I'd be all over this one in a heartbeat. This is a perfect candidate for preservation or restoration. I really hope the next owner will elevate this car to the next level, it's absolutely worth it. Luckily- being closer to retirement he thought it would be neat to restore a ferrari and be able to say he tackled one in his shop. I fear that these skills are quickly becoming lost.. body shops today from my experience have zero interest in work like this (the ones I've met at least) - ultimately when he put his head down he got it done in a few months and the results are spectacular. When I owned a Boxster I actually had other Porsche owners ask me things like \"would they even let you into Werks with a Boxster?\" (and, sadly, they weren't trying to be funny).\r\n\r\nI had a beautiful 996 in a fairly rare color combination, but again, always treated like the red-headed step child at Porsche events. At the time, air-cooled 911s were a dream for me, and I was very lucky to even have a 911 at all!\r\n\r\nThe last Werks Reunion I attended was the catalyst to me leaving the Porsche world behind and buying a Ferrari. I had certainly teetered on the fence for a few years prior, but I finally did something about it a little over two years ago. It's sad too, because Porsches are great cars\u2014including their water-cooled 911s, but it'll be a while before I get another Porsche and I'll likely never attend another Porsche event.\r\n\r\nWith the Ferrari, it's been a completely different experience. He also sells those used parts and several new ones as well. He has these reproduction mirrors for the Fiat 124, which are the same as what the 308 GT4 use. These mirrors have no markings, which isn't that big of a deal as the markings on the 308 GT4 are on the bottom anyway. That also means this mirror can be used on either side of the car as it has no markings and it's a symmetrical design. The only difference I'm seeing (and it's hard based on the photo) is the screws in the back of the mirror don't look the same.
