[{"id": 8681137, "authorName": "Symbolic_International (The Seller)", "authorUrl": "https://bringatrailer.com/member/symbolic_international/", "bidAmount": 0, "content": "Good day my fine fellow BaTMen & BaTLadies everywhere and welcome to our latest Bring-A-Trailer, Exclusive online auction. \r\n\r\nThis one is going to be a fun one for sure as you are likely to never see a more unique first generation Turbo ever again!\r\n\r\nThis particular 930 was special ordered new on behalf of the Royal Family and Rulers of Qatar and believed to have been commissioned and personally ordered new by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani in early October of 1988. Over the years it remained exclusively in the Al Thani family, likely passing to his heir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and later to his fourth son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current ruler of Qatar.\r\n\r\nThe initial order was placed by Mr. Absulaziz Mohamad Al Rabban in Doha, Qatar, the manager of House Al Thani\u2019s car collection and while the market designation was Code \u201cC32, Qatar / Bahrain / Kuwait / Yemen.\u201d The order was sent via the Porsche official agency, \u201cGulf Automobiles & Trading Company, Doha, Qatar\" where initial delivery would later be first taken. It appears the vehicle remained with the family at least until 1999 making several trips back to Porsche for services and work over the years. By 1999 the vehicle after having been in storage for some time was offered for sale and by 2000 was with a dealer in the Netherlands.\r\n\r\nIn 2016, an individual corresponded with the Porsche Factory for details on the car\u2019s construction and assembly and those records remain in the car\u2019s documentation files.\r\n\r\nThe original order for this Porsche was executed under the old \u201cSpecial Wish\u201d or \u201cSondererwunsch\u201dprogram that predated the current \u201cPORSCHE EXCLUSIV\u201d department. The initial order indicated the family was familiar with the old policy of special ordering vehicles from Porsche but the actual order was handled directly by the new \u201cPORSCHE EXCLUSIV\u201d department that now catered specifically to all such special requests for non-conforming vehicles.\r\n\r\nUsing the special \"Z-code\" option \u201c09991,\" it was removed from the production line and instead it was hand assembled and painted by a team of workers starting in October of 1988 and finishing at the end of January 1989. The work took more than three months to complete. A total of nine production options and ten \u201cZ-code\u201d special request options were incorporated into the car.\r\n\r\nInitially the vehicle was completed and remains to this day in the exterior color of \u201cRed Velvet Metallic.\u201d Due to obsessive care by the former and current Sheik\u2019s team that cares for his collection, the car retains 100% perfect original paint other than the front bonnet which had to be repainted due to numerous stone chips over the years.\r\n\r\nInitially at time of ordering and delivery, the interior was executed in a very interesting all leather set up including the headliner and other various panels and trimmed in \u201cPearl White\u201d with \"Velvet Red\u201d seat piping and \u201cRed Velvet\u201d in leather on the dash, sun visors, headliner and nearly everywhere else in the interior along with an assortment of wood veneer on the dash and shifter. To say this was rather unique example would be an understatement and apparently the Emir or one of his sons, who later inherited the car decided to return it to Porsche for a more sedate but still totally revised interior color combination.\r\n\r\nThe second and current interior was done with black seats and door cards and other normal black trim but retaining the red cloth headliner and various other treatments in red as can be seen in the photo gallery. Nearly 70 pages of records and documents have been carefully retained with the car and they will accompany it to its new owner. The other delivery items, books, manuals, warranty card and tool kit are all also equally carefully preserved and will also accompany the car to its new owner.\r\n\r\nIn 1999, after sometime in storage was released by the Al Thani family and it was acquired initially by an owner in the the Netherlands and then later in Austria where we first learned of the car and purchased it.\r\n\r\nUpon arrival in the States, this Porsche was sent to the Porsche Classic Center in San Diego, California for a full set of services and safety checks as well as complete certification and verification. \r\n\r\nAll services and safety checks are now completely current and up to date with no running time since all work was completed.\r\n\r\nQuite clearly, this is one of the single most unique examples ever completed in the final year of the original Turbo model. Being built as a true 1989 model, it retains the coveted G50, five-speed gearbox. It is of course verified and confirmed to be completely matching numbers and totally rust and accident free.\r\n\r\nWhat cannot be conveyed from mere photos and our short YouTube video alone is how absolutely showroom new this vehicle looks and drives. Our Ferrari Daytona auction just needed and that had my full attention.\r\n\r\nI think you might be thinking of Prince Hakim and Prince Jeffrey AKA, the Sultan of Brunei Royal family who are notorious for hoarding many vehicles and preferring to dump what they don\u2019t want literally in the ocean rather than selling them on the open market.\r\n\r\nWe have purchased another Al Thani family vehicle that belonged to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current ruler of Qatar. That one was a very special Aston Martin V600 Le Mans which also had a huge list of special features and options that more than doubled the original base invoice price.\r\n\r\nA few others have been offered to us over the years but so far we have purchased just two.\r\n\r\nI agree, the second interior is a reverse of what is normally seen but done likely to keep the red velvet headliner and other trim areas more appropriately matched with the new door cards, seats and other items, making it still quite unique but more cohesive .\r\n\r\nThe problem with \u201cPearl White\u201d as an interior color is that it looks fairly bad and dirty after very little use. When we had our Rolls Royce and Bentley Franchises, I remember very well near new cars in very light interior colors looking well aged after just a short amount of time.\r\n\r\nI said it earlier, if you don\u2019t have the time to come inspect and drive this car, you will never fully understand just from the photos who absolutely pristine and clean it is as well as just phenomenally sound in all regards. Not sure at what point but when I was there in the 1980s, there were no speed limits and outside of Doha, few traffic rules of any kind were enforced. While many of the Gulf Nations are \"Wet\" IE, drinking and other Wester culture ideas are allowed or at least tolerated, Qatar is quite strict so many of the roads will take you southwest to get to Bahrain or South East to the UAE where the rules are more relaxed. \r\n\r\nIt looks like a small country on a map, but the highways are long and straight and serve as backup runways for their military should anyone mess with them. I went there several times by ship but did drive once to Dubai from Doha and it was an endless series of massive straight line highways with spartan traffic or really not much in between and with no speed limits or really other rules, so going fast was never even questioned.\r\n\r\nIn any case, the family kept the car until 1999 and it was then sold to a Dutch collector. At the time it was sold, total mileage was 84K kilometers or 52K miles. The car was driven less than 3K kilometers annually during warm Summer weather over the next 22 years prior to our purchase.\r\n\r\nI tried to obtain the warranty records from Porsche to find out when the 2nd interior was installed. The only thing I learned that non-warranty work was done for the original owners in 1993 and again 1995 but they would not release any of the private records from the original owner other than the very detailed original assembly records which can be seen in photo 253. I have another page of assembly records and I will post those later today.\r\n\r\nWe cannot be certain but I would assume it was in 1993 or 1995 when the car was back at Porsche when the family had the revised seats and door cards and additional interior items revised from the original Pearl White / Red Velvet Piping to the current black. Certainly even if not showing any wear or tear, by the mid 1990s, the taste for a Pearl White interior may have fallen out of fashion and favor for something different as seen on the car today.\r\n\r\nDuring inspections it was easily seen that the door cards and other trim had new original fasteners with no tool marks, a fair indication normally that they are originally or first time installed. He said he took the car with him to the UK and an individual came to him with a trade offer of a new bmw 850. Unfortunately the Porsche owner agreed with the trade in 1990. Ever since he has regretted that trade. The owner was not from the ruling family in Qatar (Al-Thani), but he is from a known and respected family.
