He said you could adjust the cars attitude with engine speed, he said like the motocross guys, but it was mostly keeping it level because the engine rotation was lateral and not transverse like on the bikes. It is a little gear at the front of the box and if you engage it and let the clutch out with any revs and it engages it will snap off the stud it runs on. So nobody uses it. A friend had an M8F and we traded cars one fine day at Sonoma. these things are like driving a canon, you point and shoot unless you grab it by the neck (throttle) and throw it on the ground and tell it who is boss. Even then it is just waiting for you to think you know what you are doing. My car was a 1982 F1 March with 500hp in 1250 pounds and it was a pussy cat compared to the McLaren. I have seen them spun, leaving the pit box. Only Denny Hulme drove the cars at near the original potential in vintage races. \r\n800 HP in a 1400 lb package, the driver entirely surrounded by racing fuel. These cars were the ultimate expression of crazy, until Porsche completely redefined crazy with a alloy tube framed, turbocharged 12 cylinder 917 10-K. And then, poof, the big block 8 liter Chevys were sent to Europe for the Interseries, like this car, or regulated to the USRRC. Outside of having a \"passenger seat\", these cars were relatively unregulated, with only a basic set of specs that included a minimum weight. It was a very special time. \r\nThese are drivable, and really only for the more experienced vintage racers. It is a beautiful example of a Group 7 racer, and it appears ready to go.
