Well done. But, at the end of the day its an Ironhead sportster. Seems some confusion over unusual vs valuable. I have been on a lot of military bases, admittedly only a few Navy ones but cannot ever recall seeing a military Ironhead sporty ever. Not once. I have seen a number of Military bikes and most were WW2 and Korea era, Nothing since except some 2 stroke Army Scout bikes from the 1980s and those were rare and not highly valued.\r\nI think the current bid at $7500 is about fair market value, however considering all the work done and how clean and nice it is,, maybe $10k. \r\nHowever, I get highly annoyed with zero mile bikes unless still in original crates. The reason is simple, Know one knows if the work was done right or not. Even a pro restored bike, car, or airplane needs sorting on start up, break in and subsequent servicing and break in. Some feel 500 miles is a good number, others have a different number, But until proof of life? Its a art ornament, or Schrodinger's cat. I have seen a few cases where a vehicle has all outwards appearances of really nice but internally was a mess. I had several customer bikes and cars I had to extensively rebuild for customers who paid for shiny baubles at auction and were very upset. Outside appearances are only part of the equation. If its still in the factory crate thats one thing although a virtual certainty is it STILL needs a full tear down to clean up any corrosion, new seals and gaskets.\r\nThis is a common opinion as well and many shows are now enforcing \"Proof of life\" before entry. I applaud that, This famously happened at the LeMay Museum show a few years ago up near Tacoma for their Concours d'elegance. Stories had circulated of a well known collector parading a Vincent at shows in & out of a trailer but actually had thrown a Connecting rod and was actually Inop. Despite this it garnered several awards. So the judges required all machines entered had to start and drive across the show field before official entry for judging. A well known collector of British bikes, Lets call him \"Wayne\" had a very nice collection of zero miles restorations. He had made great effort to prepare a 50s Triumph for entry and was very upset with this rule. Actually refused to comply and ranted extensively. The judges, despite his stature refused to budge. The majority of the rest of us cheered the decision. Alternatively a friend entered his motorcycle into the All British Field meet in Oregon. While well over several hundred entries including a multi million dollar car entry, That bike not only won the motorcycle category but was one of 3 machines selected by the judges as \"Best of show\" Tom, the owner, gracious and humble thanked them for the prestigious award, and stuck the trophy in his backpack, tickled the carb, kicked it to life and rode off the show field and home. I have receipts for another $15,000 in other parts and restoration costs. Your correct that every bike needs fine tuning after a rebuild but I have not put gas in because of its Museum quality so the new owner can display the bike indoors. As far as it being just another Sportster is like saying an original Shelby Mustang is just a Mustang or a Chevy Camarillo Copa is just a Camero.. As far as your value, the appraisal that\u2019s IRS acceptable is $74,800. That means that someone in a high Tax bracket could buy it and donate to a credible museum and get a $25,000 tax deduction. And I would like to point out that the appraisal company took three weeks to appraise and it included conversations with Harley Davidson archives dept. and was told that this bike is possibly the rarest \u201cmodern day\u201d Harley Davidson know to exist. Mid 1990s Kenny had a display at PIR for the vintage car races and some well heeled collectors were know to frequent. That year Edelbrock had a huge display and vendor area. Vic Edelbrock Jr strolled over and fancied a 1970 Triumph Bonnie on display, asked how much? That was a customer bike but Kenny offered up we can build one for $13,000 which was just under double what I was getting for my shops builds. Kenny always swung for the fences. It was a pleasure though to meet Vic Jr,,So he specced a big bore, cams, a upgraded 5 speed and painted EDELBROCK RED. So the guys in the shop went all out not only cosmetically beautiful, but rode and performed as well. ONE SWEET machine. right before delivery though several crisis, some easily sorted, but the oil tank cracked, no ones fault, its just metal fatigue, but it illustrates that with the finest craftsmanship SH*T happens,, so not only look good but has to RUN and run well without issues. Premium prices requires a premium product. So the nad off eventually happens, And when you watch his TV show, I think its called Edelbrock garage or something, You can see that bike on display in the opening intro on every show.\r\nNow, the guys in the shop were a little upset. The bike does not get ridden. Display. WTH?
