The TD would become their first sports car offered in LHD, but the Y-Type of 1947 was the first LHD sedan. The grill treatment was a common thing in the 1950s. It was a way to personalize a car on the race track. While I wouldn't do it to my own car today, I do have a checkerboard TC grill hanging on my wall that I will never restore.\n\nThere are a lot of \"incorrect\" items here, but it's all part of the history of a car that was obviously cared for and enjoyed by its early owners. The single Bosch driving lamp and the tail lamps are interesting period aftermarket items. The leather looks like it could be original, and if so then the original paint color would have been either Shires Green, Almond Green, Black, or Ivory. The period-correct H2O gauge and grab handle are useful additions to the dash. It even has the under-dash cover which is always missing, although for good reason. The generator appears to be from a TD which is not uncommon, but originals are available.\n\nLots of small original features in place here which is nice to see. The car should make a nice driver for a lucky bidder. Combine this with a very aggressive steering ratio (even for the day) and if things aren't set up right then you will certainly have a workout at high speed. But... set up correctly they are a delight to drive with crisp and agile handling. It should track straight at all times, except for concrete highways with those little grooves cut in where the old-style tread pattern tends to wander a bit. If the aggressive steering ratio doesn't agree with one's level of youthful exuberance behind the wheel, there are aftermarket steering boxes that allow you to literally take a corner with one finger, but at the loss of much sportiness.\r\n\r\nThe brakes also need to be set up correctly, with a lining appropriate for steel drums. You can see evidence of the original re-spray in the front end photos, namely the paint on the brake lines, frame, and under the wings. Obviously much older than the paint on top of the wings and bonnet.\n\nNone of this detracts from the car though, and someone did a very nice job of color matching the front end. My own TC has a couple re-painted panels that had to match older re-painted panels and they aren't perfect.\n\nI think it's fair to say this car was originally Shires green with green interior.
