This Bus is perfect for a bolt-in, no cut, EV power-train. Please, allow me to explain.\r\n\r\nOn the weekend of the 8th I was out in Central Oregon (picking up the B@T Dasher I won) and on the way back, in the middle of no-where, a very patina Bus \"cruises\" past myself and my truck in follow, driven by a good friend. Dead silent. No effort. We were doing ~70 MPH when he passed. Again, dead silent as it did so up a slight incline.\r\n\r\nTwo hours later we stopped for a break and as soon as our feet hit the ground we looked across our vehicles at each other and said, \"Did you NOT hear that Bus pass us!?\" The way the Bus drove seemed as right as ever. \r\n\r\nThere are kits for this Bus that would bolt right in and not require any modification, being completely reversible, and look 100% factory non-electric. They take a Bus from sluggish and slow to safe and snappy, and make them plenty capable of a 70 MPH+ pass.\r\n\r\nOn a perfect Bus like this you could keep the original motor on display and just slip in the new parts, without marring what makes this Bus so great. Using Altamont pass on I580 east of San Francisco as an example, my recollection is that our 67 could not maintain anything near 40 going uphill. This is a short, moderately steep grade of a few miles with a total rise of under 1000 feet. Something longer like Cajon or the Grapevine on I5 could be even less comfortable. In the early 70s these roads had a lot less traffic, but also had fewer lanes, and even in the far right you can be hard pressed by big rigs trying to get past you. And back then an acceleration such as 0-60 in six seconds was territory only hit by super cars and motorcycles, while today every Civic and Corolla can achieve that...though fortunately few owners of these drive them that way. \r\nThis takes nothing away from the charm and appeal of VW vans in general and this version in particular.
