We took several trips in it. The longest was from Bethlehem PA to Miami Beach in 1957, with 2 or 3 of my aunts aboard as well as my mom and dad. I remember we drove it on the sand at Daytona Beach on the way down and also got caught in a torrential downpour. As I noted in 2014, the car never missed a beat on trips, never had a breakdown. Not powerful, certainly, but once up to speed it handled the pre-Interstate highways with ease.\n\nMy dad took great care of it, revarnishing the wood roof rack every couple of years and Simonizing the finish regularly. The front part of the front seat was replaced with a leather piece at one point that didn't quite match, but close enough. The interior was very durable.\n\nThe M6 semi-automatic transmission with Fluid Drive shifted to the next higher gear with a distinctive 'clunk' when you let off the gas. Always liked that sound.\n\nWhile just a few miles from home on the return trip from Miami, my mom thought the car was overheating. 'Something smells hot,' she noted. My dad said something like, 'You'd be hot, too, if you'd been running down the road all day at 60.'
