Road miles unknown but extremely minimal as it was used only occasionally for blasts around the rolling vineyards in California's Central Coast, and of course, the odd Cars 'n Coffee in downtown San Luis Obispo. Maybe a couple thousand miles total!\n\nThe engine is all aluminum and very light. Front heavy? Not at all! My Morgan +8, same vintage ('69), and this is important, because this is an early +8 (1970), so called \"narrow track\" or \"narrow body\" weighed in at about 1,900 lbs (the precise weight of my car, steel coachwork, with 3/4 tank of fuel). The weight distribution was 49/51, driver installed, which could not be better, really. The surprise was the \"wedge\" (diagonal weight, left front to right rear, 180 lb driver in the seat) at 0% meaning precisely half the weight of the car on that diagonal. Weights left to right were equal, LHD,full sized \"56\" battery mounted behind the seat, RH side. \r\n\r\nSo much for the car being front heavy. The engine is mounted pretty far back, and the installation of the 5 speed would take up some of the foot well space, even with the hard to find TVR bell housing to accommodate the (type 5) Tremec 5 speed. So what's an inch or so between friends, or the pedal and the tunnel? I had to bend the throttle pedal on mine towards the brake pedal to be able to do a proper heal/toe shift (mandatory with the antediluvian Moss 4 speed's crunchy \"synchros\"). Probably not much of a problem, depending on your shoe size. Note: Jayson is larger than I am... Likely much larger driving shoes. So it must be OK. \r\n\r\nFortunately, this car was disassembled and built from scratch, so the gearbox installation was done properly and well though out. \r\n\r\nThe front suspension appears to have the Torrington bearings between the uprights and the springs, so steering will be lighter, and have better feel. Rack and pinion is unusual for an early chassis car, and is a huge plus over the original Cam Gear worm and peg. \r\n\r\nAs for its usefulness on the street, HELL YES! Who cares about the Brooklands screens? So it's a little breezy. I have a set for my own Morgan, but have not yet removed the windshield. I have had a couple of cars with the little \"aero\" screens and they are just fine. In some cases, such as on a Lotus 7, they are FAR better than the flat windshield with its turbulence drilling your ears and making it impossible to breathe. \r\nAnyone who has owned a Morgan will tell you that \"softening the ride\" is just a pipe dream (and we boomers know all about pipe dreams). The Hoosiers would be just fine, and the power should make drifting easy, while the negative camber plates will ensure that the front end stays stuck to the road, and that the steering will still work. \r\n\r\nIf you are a \"purist\", looking for a pristine, accurate +8, you have to look elsewhere. This one has been modified, cut up, modified some more, all in a good way, pretty much in keeping with the car's vintage and low technical level. It even has a Vertex magneto in front of that down draught Weber intake. A mid 60s USRRC sort of \"CanAm\" spec engine (the old \"BOP\" V8), with a bit more modern, all synchro, CR Tremec 5 speed. Good stuff, but not '70 Morgan spec. The 4 wheel disc brakes appear to be large, which is a good thing. \r\n\r\nMaybe the best part of this one is that it has not been driven much, and not really raced. No damage, fresh wood and coachwork, and serviceable components, so it can be enjoyed and fixed if something breaks. I am guessing from the pictures that it has an entirely new wiring harness, and I HOPE that a schematic comes along with it. It is properly Morgan where it matters, and will definitely drive as a Morgan should. \r\n\r\nIs it a legal vintage racer? Depends on the club. It's a bit radical for '69, and not many Morgan +8s were raced here in the US (it would have to race against Cobras, Corvettes, Tigers and the odd Jaguar E type), if there were any at all. BUT... It is very popular in the UK, but there are strict regulations and yet, it is a very popular class. Popular enough to raise the prices of well prepped Morgan +8 racers to $80K and above. \r\n\r\nSo, put a fresh clip in your money gun if you want to buy a beautifully built +8 that Jay once sat in... We got the Weber kit from Top End Performance, and it fired immediately and ran beautifully. Road trials were impressive to say the least. The immediate response of Webers is exhilarating- and this car was eager before. Now it is practically straining at its' leash. \r\n\r\nIt's fun, of course, when you pop the hood and everyone oohs and ahs at the Weber look, but it's even more fun when they get a view of your tail lights as you pull away from them. My car has never been this quick, and this one (with equal hp and less weight) will be even quicker. These early narrow body cars are quite valuable, and the price quoted here would get you a very nice '68~'71 +8 road car.\r\n Jason does nice work, and will go to the expense of producing an alloy body (Most early +8 were steel), knocking off another 100 lbs, and being able to fabricate any other part necessary. This car shows an amazing amount of extraordinary workmanship. The engine may make as much as 300 HP (depending on the cylinder heads), but not much more. It is still roadworthy, and has all those Webers. \r\nHowever... It isn't legal for the popular British Morgan racing spec classes, and may not actually be legal for some of the local vintage race organizations. It is a unique Morgan, and it is a very nice one. \r\nI suspect that they expected something closer to 6 figures. The market has not spoken. It takes two to purchase a car; Someone who really wants it, and someone who really, really wants it. Nobody is going to bet against himself. Soooo... Somebody will get this car, and they will pay the full value. \r\nThis is essentially the Morgan I would have built for myself.
