Before noon, I was on the road headed for Philadelphia. Nothing went wrong, with the exception of a few fuses and bulbs, on the entire trip, and the E28 and I sailed across the continent on that wonderful M20B27 torque. I had previously owned a manual 1987 eta, a car which I really enjoyed, and this 528e was very similar and enjoyable to drive. I did not take it easy, either: I was on highway 87 North within an hour of picking up the car and I did not baby it on the drive across, frequently on the road for 12 hours or more. Please do your BaT research and learn how much work the previous owner to @Lamented, @Christopher_Kohler put into this 5 Series. You can read my drive report at the end of Chris' auction as well.\r\n\r\nI am always amazed that a motor designed in the late 1970s oil crisis still performs so well in modern traffic. The power figure is deceptive, and the torque helps the eta do a good job of keeping up with traffic, especially in congested areas of the northeast in which @Lamented and I live. Glad to see it was enjoyed over the last couple years. Amazing how time flies! I think car is a cool concept and that stereo sounds amazing (I had a couple videos in my listing that even captured on an iPhone, it was hard to believe how good it sounded. On top of that, you didn\u2019t hear it outside the car. Nothing was rattling. \n\nYes, it has the G265/6 overdrive trans original to a 1982 528e. \u201882 528e was the only m20 car in the world to get the 265. This is also the 138th US-Spec E28 produced. Earliest one I\u2019ve seen in person.\n\nI added the airdam. The car had one years ago but I was never able to pin down what it was and I love the shark spoiler so added that. There was a copper pinstripe failing around the car so I added the red stripe which I felt tied in the interior. When I bought the car, it had grey sheepskins and the door cards were dyed grey as well. Bringing the cherry red back was one of the fun parts of this project for me. \n\nFew things I want to clear up from the description. Perhaps @bringatrailer can fix them.\n\nThe engine management is Motronic. I (prior owner) did all of the mechanical work done in 2022 (timing belt, valve adjustment, ignition parts, belts, water pump, hoses, etc). Can refer to the previous listing for that. The car doesn\u2019t have an aftermarket cam or different valves. The head was done in the late \u201880s sometime when the belt went but beyond that I\u2019m not aware of any internal engine work other than routine maintenance. \n\nI put a new Bosch fuel pump in it after the sale was complete just for peace of mind since the plan was to drive it ACROSS THE COUNTRY to Pennsylvania. \n\nWhen @CP_Manning left with the car, he did not baby it and he made it all the way across the country. I was a wreck until he sent the photo giving it a wash before delivering it to the seller. He definitely gave it the workout the car needed.\n\nI am glad I could bring this car back and I hope it finds another great home. Yes the car has been thoroughly enjoyed. Moving on but will always have a soft spot for the E28. I wanted to add that under my ownership it had oil changes, tire rotations, a new clutch slave, clutch reservoir line and clutch hose, some fuel lines and fittings, and few interior trim bits. I also spent some time trying to sort the cold start idle which hunts a little bit for a minute or so but ultimately decided it was ok the way it was. Only other mechanical I would mention is the shift linkage has a some play, and new bushings or a Z3 shift swap were on the list but I never got around to it.
