The floors are steel and while the corrode and surface rust it is unusual for the floor panels to rust through. However these very early post war cars can have severe rust issues because of the poor metallurgy of the war scrap they were built from. These cars rust out in the rocker panels (sills) under the doors, the rear fenders and inner fenders rust away as do the rear body mounts, the floor of the spare tire compartment rusts away, the front body mounts rust away, the door bottoms rust away, the front fenders corrode where the parking light housings are sweat soldered to the fenders etc. Because the underside photos of this car show such considerable rust a careful inspection with a magnet is in order, particularly the outer and inner rocker panels, the rear fenders, doors etc. This car looks very nice in the photos but the photos cannot tell you if you are looking at solid steel, bonds, fiberglass or worse. I have seen cars \"repaired\" with chicken wire, corrugated cardboard and so forth beneath a skim coat of Bondo or fiberglass. A \"feature\" should be something a car has, whereas the characteristics that validate this as a very early car are essentially everything it doesn't have, such as rear fender skirts,, the chrome belt line moldings along the side, even the later pleats in the upholstery aren't there and very likely it is also missing the seat mounted picnic tables for the rear seat occupants but we don't know because there's no photo of the rear seat. For that matter we have to guess the condition of the headliner, carpets etc as there are no detailed photos. Perhaps the only \"feature\" to be found on this (although I'm guessing as there are no photos) would be a \"quick lift\" window regulator for the front passenger window. And as these are known to wear out, if they are present, do they work properly, by now, most of them don't. The later cars have a conventional crank that you turn to roll up the window. They rarely break. Finally, what is the actual colour of the side panels - in some photos they look grey or silvery, in others sort of primrose or yellow. In addition, there are enough standard steel Mark VI Bentleys hanging about that there are quite a few to choose from. Since they are not worth a great deal even with custom bodies, I believe a prospective buyer should exercise quite a bit of diligence to find the best one they can (just my opinion) \r\n\r\nMuch is said about the poor quality of postwar steel and I suppose it is true. But for cars that were built in the early postwar period of supposedly inferior material, there DO seem to be quite a few of them running around.
