This car has great bones, is extremely complete, and it wouldn't really take much to get her fully road worthy at this point. Once it received its recommissioning earlier in the year, it was always easy to start and ran great. If we knew how little it would take back then to get it more road worthy, we would have put it in queue to get the work done. Unfortunately, this classic is part of a much larger collection that is being parted out, and we've already deviated plenty from our original course of action. But, every next time we started and drove this Mk IX, it became clearer that we should have done things a little differently as it really won't take much to get her back on track. It was bought as a running project, and it will be sold as a running project.\n\nSo, my recommendation is to go through all of the pictures and watch the extremely detailed video series. Every one of the videos is very informative and focuses on a different aspect of the car. They are also all narrated, so there's plenty of information being described as you're shown the presentation. Between all of the videos, you will hear the car cold start, warm start, hear it run at length, be shown every inch of the car, underneath, inside and out, and go on a ride around the Just Jags facility. Especially in the 2 walk around videos, the car's condition and history are thoroughly discussed. The undercarriage tour is particularly useful and eye-opening as you get to see every inch of that rust free bottom like you were there. So, do yourself a favor and watch them all; I promise they won't disappoint. \n\n @Adobe, yes, the back glass surround trim / bezel is present, intact, and in excellent condition. I show and discuss it at length along with the other removed parts within the first few minutes of the 1st (indoor) walk around video.\n\n @CraiginPA, Some of the parts were included with the car upon arrival, and some were accumulated by our previous owner after he acquired it. As I mentioned in my opening post, the car is part of a larger collection which is getting parted out so we didn't take a complete inventory of what's in the trunk. Again, it's more closely and specifically addressed in the walk around video. That rear unit may have its own built in compressor. There are several redundant parts in the trunk that are already on the car including several brake components as I mentioned in the video. Please give that a watch.\n\nThe interior was POSSIBLY refreshed around the same time as when the car was painted. If that's the case, the carpets MAY be replacements, and those replacement kits usually did not come with over rugs. I agree with you that the rear seat backrest looks more original than the rest. But, if you examine everything else on its own, it appears, feels, and smells like leather, just a little newer. Again, like I said in my post below, we feel that it may have been redone around the same time as when the car was repainted. We can't say when that was as our current ownership began in late 2011, so, it was definitely before then under previous ownership. I can tell you that it's consistent with the rest of the interior and, like the repaint, appears to have been done to a high standard. The fit and finish is really excellent, and if that small area on the drivers side seat bottom were repaired, the entire interior would present even nicer than it does.\r\n\r\nI can't say whether or not the seats currently in it are Reutter, but everything fits exactly as it should. Funny comment about the sofa though. If you look at our previous auction of the 1956 MK VII, aside from the front and rear armrests and the picnic tray tables, they appear to be the same. A freon line is also visible in picture 77.\r\n\r\nTo determine if the bottom seat cushion(s) are leather, simply pull up the front or rear cushion and inspect the edges where it is tacked down.\r\n\r\nIt would be interesting to scrape some paint away somewhere in the boot area or elsewhere to verify the original color of the car was Cotswold Blue, as stated on the JDHT certificate. I thought I would do it during one of the walk around videos, but somehow it slipped my mind during the process. Those videos are always a fine line between wanting to be as thorough as possible, but not making them so long that folks fall asleep. I think we hit 20 minutes on the first one, and just over 10 minutes on the second one. There\u2019s so much to these cars, that I got distracted and never came back to it. We will try to address that on Monday morning.\n\nThe two handles below the dash are actually black, and I believe those operate the fresh air intake for the cabin. Another reason that I think that the rear AC unit was ADDED on and is aftermarket, is that panel of buttons that is on the left side of the dash behind the steering wheel just doesn\u2019t look like it came from 1959. But that is the A/C control panel. I will provide some up close pictures of that in addition to what was seen during the videos.\n\nAs far as the hill stop feature goes, it may have it. But, I\u2019m not sure if that was a standard feature on the model or an added option that you would have to pay for, and I don\u2019t see it on the original invoice. By tomorrow afternoon, the torch will have been passed as someone new will be this car's new caretaker.\r\n\r\nHaving already discussed different topics and various aspects of the car, it's important to keep in mind the importance of the obvious overall theme here; and that's COMPLETENESS. The car starts, runs, and drives very well, as has been demonstrated. Its interior and exterior are nearly 100% intact (right side trunk lid panel is the only major piece missing). And, with relatively minor effort, time, and funds, this cat can be immediately enjoyed as it sits. Yes, it's sure easy to pick something apart and point out its flaws and shortcomings. However, as I've said before in previous posts and in the videos, there's a lot to like here. \r\n\r\n@EPe, I'm glad that we at least agree in theory regarding the interior. I think that you'll also agree that the next caretaker only has 2 ways to go with the interior; either repair the small portion and enjoy as is, or completely re do it in whatever manner and material they wish. In either case, the current material that was used (possibly several decades ago), doesn't really matter. Yes, it would be great to know for certain, but going forward, it isn't terribly relevant.\r\n\r\nThank you very much for the compliment on the videos. My goal is to always be as thorough and transparent as possible. I'd like to point out that the video sequence in the gallery is chronologically out of order. Save the Just Jags facility tour, the videos should be watched in the following order to make perfect sense: \r\n\r\n#1, #4, #2, #3, #5. \r\n\r\nAs they're currently ordered, the first, fourth, and second were shot back in late March during a very cold week down in St. Louis when it was in the mid 30's. To be clear, Just Jags is a Jaguar Restoration facility, not a servicing facility; there's definitely a difference. JJ has historically used Le Stable, the facility that did all of the PPI's on the cars on offer, including this one, for some of its mechanical needs. Part of the reason that things are winding down is that the JJ head / main mechanic retired last year which greatly impacted what could and couldn't be done in house. The answer to both of your questions is no; we did not discover ANY OTHER issue with the brakes beyond the left rear wheel cylinder which was discovered months after the recommissioning service. The objective was to get everything that wasn't running or recently ran in to running and driving condition, not to completely mechanically restore each car. As it is, $2,000 was spent on this car to get it to where it is now. So, going forward, it will be up to the new caretaker to determine which direction he or she would like to go. Again, if we knew back in February that it was this simple, it would have been addressed. The 2 facilities aren't around the corner from each other, in fact they're in different states. So, the cars were loaded into a trailer and hauled to and fro, no quick and easy task. Only upon further (extensively) checking and driving the car did we discover the only apparent brake issue. I have a 32\" inseam and am about even torso to legs. Great thought @JagClock listing inseam as a factor. Strangely, I'm longer armed than most guys my height with a wing span of 6'4\" so my arms are more bent holding the wheel than I'd like when my legs are where they're comfortable to reach the pedals. Somehow, I got cheated out of a few inches of total height as I've read that your wingspan should be about what your height is. There is a sound deadening panel made of bitumen that was originally glued to the underside of the roof over the area where the sunroof slides, and it had lost its adhesion and dropped into the glide path. I removed the sunroof (described clearly in the MK VII service manual) and was able to reach in and pull it out, allowing full retraction. Certainly not a show stopper.
