We wanted to allow for a little time to let the questions come in before commenting. We will get to those below but first, a little back story on the car!\r\n\r\nWe purchased it from the sister of the original owner this past spring who inherited the car after her brother's passing a year or so prior. The original owner was an aircraft mechanic and pilot. We picked the car up from his old hanger at a local municipal airport where it had been stored next to his Cessna. Some of the best people to buy cars from are pilots and engineers as they often keep the same regimented and strict maintenance habits practiced in maintaining an airplane as they do with their vehicles. Such is the case with this little MR2. He kept everything and always maintained the car in a meticulous fashion often doing fluids changes himself being that he was more than capable of doing so. In addition to the records in the listing, we also have 25 pages of service records and emissions inspection forms from new until 2019. One of which the emissions station called it a Celica...ha! \r\n\r\nThe intake, exhaust, and TRD short shifter were done when nearly new and likely purchased through Toyota. The car was also treated to Zeibart rustproofing when it was new with 614 miles. We have the receipt. Original parts come with the car including the original shift knob which looks virtually unused. We also received two large boxes of extra oil, brakes fluid, air filters, and other basic maintenance items because he was particular about the brand of fluids used in the car. The new owner is welcome to those items if they want them. Now, let's get into some of the questions! \r\n\r\n@93SRF Good observation. Those are plugs from the Zeibart rustproofing done when the car virtually new with 614 miles; we have the receipt. The black trim around the wheel arches was a special ordered option as part of the \"appearance pack\" as listed on the original bill of sale that can be seen in the photo gallery. These are not drilled into the fender. They are mounted using existing holes for the fender liner. \r\n\r\n\r\n@964GUY88 Surface oxidation on suspension components is an East coast thing. Humidity stinks! Nothing that would cause concern for us as they can be removed and recoated if desired. We would venture to say that the coatings used in early 1990s cars weren't the best as this type of oxidation is common with some of the RX-7s, Supras etc that we have seen and owned even extremely low mileage cars. \r\n\r\n@MRF77 Cloth is the way to go! We noticed that cloth interiors in 300ZXs, RX-7s, etc are slightly more desirable than leather and hold up much better. The one thing I will say is the RX7 felt significantly lighter, faster, and more powerful.....as well as the rotary engine sounding a lot more distinctive and revving out a lot higher. The engine in the MR2 was its biggest let down.... it was not a particularly smooth engine and sounded kind of harsh at higher revs. I also remember it falling on its face above like 5,500RPM (or well below redline). The Toyota ad from back in the day had the 0 to 60 mph time at 5.9 seconds, but truthfully it felt a lot slower than that and most road tests at the time had the 0 to 60 time at closer to 6.2/6.3 seconds which is a far cry from the 4.9/5.0 seconds of the RX7. Pluses for the MR2 was that despite it having a reputation for biting back when driven hard and being known for lift off oversteer I found it to be very impressive and stable handling and for a t-roof car it was extremely rigid and tight feeling, with no squeaks or rattles. The RX7 felt more fragile and although I wouldn\u2019t say it didn\u2019t handle as well it was a lot more lively feeling and more twitchy to me than the Toyota. Both cars were reliable for me, and surprisingly the MR2 was the only one to have an issue (2nd gear synchro was occasionally balky) but I have a feeling it was more the result of the owner before me being hard on the car than a reflection on MR2\u2019s as a whole. I find the FD to be one of the most beautiful cars ever designed and it is a true driver's car. The MR-2 is such a unique vehicle in its own right. It's small, but has plenty of room and it's great to drive with the T-tops off. As far as driving comparison, the MR-2 is decidedly slower and its handling is good, but can keep you on your toes. The RX-7 has a great power band through the engagement of the turbos and handles amazingly. I've found both to be equally reliable in my ownership (with almost zero issues, but all mine are also fairly low mileage collectors). What I would say is that I think both cars have a long and beautiful road of appreciation ahead. These were such great 90's cars. I wouldn't be surprised if the value gap between RX-7's and Supras closes - with RX7's gaining a lot of ground in the time to come. The MR-2 too has much room to grow too - but I imagine will always lag a little behind the Supra then RX7 values. \r\nAs an aside and to be fair, I too own a 95 Supra TT and the FD's are by far my most favorite of the bunch. I've also owned 90's 300zx's and a Dodge Stealth TT and in my mind the 90's Japanese Halo sports cars are the best era in my generation. Stock for stock the RX-7 is faster all measurable ways. It has a stiffer suspension than the MR2 (even the base/touring models). There's less sound deadening in the RX-7. The build quality is below that of Toyotas. The MR2 is more solid feeling. Rattles develop in the Rx-7 more readily, and the hatchback cabin amplifies that versus the snug cabin in the MR2.\r\n You can bring a stock MK2 turbo to a track day and beat on without much worries. The RX-7 stock brakes are barely adequate. Add a few common mods and turn up the boost some and the MR2 will still be fine. The RX-7 will be prone to overheating and on the edge of engine destroying detonation.\r\nI guess that's what it boils down to - Mazda built the FD to the very limit.
