My wife's '56 Town & Country wagon had a vibration and rather than spend the $400 for a new trunnion we had a standard U-joint end welded on the driveshaft and used the output shaft from a later TorqueFlite. Not 100% authentic, but cheaper and easier to service in the future and it eliminated the vibration. It's under the car, nobody will ever see it, and given the amount of work that went into this wagon here, it wouldn't be surprising if they made the same change along the way. The biggest problem was the shifter, you couldn\u2019t find 3rd, with a power shift. Mopar, in their infinite wisdom went with a new shifter, from Inland. ( I believe, it was called) A friend was riding with and said you\u2019ve got to get rid of that junk, and mentioned a guy that had some speed shop. He had a Hurst shifter that a guy ordered for his 64-65 Plymouth, and never picked up. It looked exactly like the one in this 64 and brought back a ton of memories of the times racing anyone that wanted to. LOL. But seriously, the manual drum brakes work well on these Mopars, even though it's nothing like the pedal-feel of today's cars. You get used to it. What this Fury *has* that you really want is the later dual-circuit MC. That is far more critical for braking safety than the lack of power boost.\n These are fantastic driving chassis, well balanced and competent. In fact, I'd say my '65 Mopar has a better feeling - more solid, more direct - chassis than my '67 which has a number of developmental changes from the 64-and-earlier drivetrains. The front LCA's, the driveshaft yoke, the wheelbase, brake system, the shifters.. a lot of little details add up in the changes between 64 and 66. Like most classic American production cars, this has ample parts and service support from a number of sources, the systems are easy and simple to work on with plenty of space and access.
