I found this Manx in the desert in Joshua Tree, CA. I actually had my eyes on it for several years as it was sitting out in the back of a large fenced property amongst many other old vehicles and I could see it in the distance from the road as I would drive by and had a strong feeling that it was an Authentic Meyers Manx. I have two other Meyers Manx buggies so I know a bit about them.. But for probably 5 years I never saw anyone at this property and my letters of interest left taped to the gate were either ignored or blew away in the wind.\r\nBut then finally one day I was driving by and the gate was open and an elderly gentleman was there. I quickly pulled over to talk to him and asked if I could take a look at the Manx buggy. He told me that he had had it since the 1990s and that he got from the guy who he thought had originally built it, a guy who had lived in the area but who had since passed away. He said he had used it to cruise around the desert back roads, but as he was getting on in years himself had stopped doing so some time back and that it had been sitting in this spot in his yard for many years now. I made him an offer and after some back and forth we were able to make a deal and I took the car home with me that day. So it was something of a desert \"barnfind\". And over the past 2 years I have been working to bring this car back to life and with the lovingly expert help of Ross Meyers (no relation to Bruce) at French\u2019s VW in Yucca Valley, CA. it has indeed been brought back to life, and is a great runner. Super fun to drive, and faster than my other two Manx buggies in fact. I have had alot of fun with it over the last year cruising around desert dirt roads, and now have it down at the beach in Carlsbad, CA. and with the addition of the vintage Aloha Surf racks it has become a great little surf car and beach town run\u2019about. I\u2019ve had alot of fun with this Manx and enjoyed restoring it, and now am ready to pass it along to a new Manx lover. Ya it looks like it probably rubbed the wheel there over the years on both sides as you would expect from buggy that lived in the desert and got plenty of dirt road use. But the fenders are as they were when I purchased the buggy. I havent done anything to them. The rear motor cut out had been cut when when I got the buggy to accomodated a bigger airfilter and a master surfboard builder reconstructed that piece with heavy weight fiber glass, and we painted that area with matching metal flake prior to clear coat. I had to pick and choose my battles on the restorations that i did and I chose to just get the Speedo and the gas gauge working and not bother with the rest for now but if I keep the car I certainly would get them all working as it wouldnt take too much effort I dont believe.
