A/C compressor has been removed from the car at some point and never put back and did not come with the car when I purchased it. However, the condenser and evaporator are still installed on the car and their lines have been sealed. The fuel cooler and air dryer do come with the sale of the car and could be refitted when new compressor is installed. The A/C system in the Series1 XJ's even when new, never worked quite well. There is only 2 vents in the front dash that were supposed the do most of the cooling for the entire cabin. The vinyl doesn't offend me but with the quality of the installation, choosing the perforated vinyl for the pleated sections (to match the original interior; see the headrests) would have been a better decision. Still, the vinyl will endure the heat of Texas or So Cal with zero maintenance, whereas leather will require more care.\r\n\r\nThe first-gen XJ6 (1968-1973) again shows off the design brilliance of Sir William Lyons. This was the last range he personally had a major hand in. The Series 2 LWB didn't work as well, but the Series 3 is a cheap-on-the-ground future collectible too.\r\n\r\nMy favorite was a '73, one-year-only XJ12 SWB with a 5-speed T5 manual gearbox with the catalytic converters removed. Sure wish I still had that badass cat today! As everybody acknowledges, the series 1 XJ6 is one the most beautiful cars ever built, but lots of people fear them. My sister in-law was no different, loved the looks and class, But as we had been using a series 1 as our daily driver, we were able to squelch here fears. Anyway it was being sold by a wealthy woman at Malarky Farms in Scappose OR. and it was in very good condition, only needing a headliner and the some of the wood refinished. Anyway she and her partners addressed those issues as they were able. She owned and enjoyed the car for 20 Years or so, even taking it to shows for years, and winning trophy's in Washington and Oregon. When she was ready to sell it, I brought it up to Sequim and sold it to a friend Tom Andrus a major enthusiast who was a retired Aerospace engineer ( Skunkworks ) who enjoyed restoring cars and British motorcycles. So he restored the interior, and repainted it and got it to top shape. He owned and loved the car until his death, it then passed to a friend of Toms ( the Washington seller) who after a year or so put it on Craigslist in non running condition. I discovered it the second day of the listing and tried to buy it back for my sister in-law or myself, but it was already sold to the current seller in California. I was so sad, as the series 1 that I still have I have completely worn out and now has 475,000 miles on it ( I rebuilt the motor once a couple hundred thousand miles ago ) it still fires right up, the transmission however is a little lazy when cold. and I used the crap out of the car as our everyday driver for over 20 years ( I have owned lots of Jags etc through the years ) but I kept that one As I put a hitch on it and traveled all over the west towing the Maserati Barchetta rep that I build. Even going to Laguna Seca, you should see all the looks of wonder towing around what looks like a 53 Maserati Barchetta with a vintage Jag. but it was always dead reliable and had no problem going over the mountains to get there with the air conditioning going. and it made a beautiful tow vehicle. I recently submitted the jag to sell on BAT as a project as I would rather sell to an enthusiast here rather than to a locale dreamer who just park outside with a tarp and it would return to the earth. But BAT said no, it did not fit their current MO and was to much of a project as it has rust in the rear wheel well and the paint has turned to chalk. They loved the car and loved the story, but still, no.
