The single chamber master cylinder has one brake line coming out and it heads down on the firewall where a four-way brass 'T' splits the line into three; one that runs to the back of the car to actuate the rear brakes, and two to the front to actuate the front brakes. A dual chamber MC has two lines exiting the master cylinder. One goes directly to the rear, the other to the fronts (one line to each side). Installing a dual MC requires you to alter the plumbing from the first example to the second.\r\n You can (probably) keep the existing line from the single cylinder MC and the two lines to the front brakes undisturbed at the brass block (the line is disconnected from the MC). You will need to plug the open hole in the four-way block that was opened when the line to the back was undone. Place a new two-way block at the end of the line running to the back and fabricate a new line from the block to the new MC. Attach the line running from the MC to the rear brakes to the front chamber of the MC. I\u2019ve read that and have no idea why. It is important to use same-diameter lines coming out of the MC. I don\u2019t recall if the single MC line is a fit to the dual MC, so you\u2019ll have to make provisions. Use reducers at the brass blocks to accommodate different size lines. Reducers plus a new two-way brass block and a plug are available at most hardware stores. \r\n Bleed the brakes and you're done. \r\n Warniongs: Make sure you follow the right procedure to fill the new MC - will be outlined in the instructions that come with it. And you'll need a couple of good flare wrenches. Do NOT use an open-end wrench on the lines. You WILL need an open-end to hold the brass blocks when tightening things up. Be careful regarding spills/drips of the brake fluid -will remove paint very quickly. Treat the line running to the back with great care, as it is made of unobtanium. When undoing the brake lines at the existing four-way and at the single cylinder MC, be careful not to bend the lines or strip the nuts. Use some penetrating oil and come back to it the next day. It was the first year of the Toronado, '66 between my 11th and 12th grade. This was also the first year of the Quadrajet carb. This carb had two options for where fuel supply could feed the float chamber. The unused port was plugged with a small freeze plug. Turns out these plugs had the bad habit of popping out and spaying fuel over the hot engine, then guess what would happen! My job that summer was to remove the air cleaner from every Toro that was on the lot and using a small drill jig and a 1/8th drill that Olds had come up with, clamp it to the carb and cross drill through the carb body and freeze plug and tap in a spring pin to prevent the plug from popping out. I must have installed 30 or more of these that summer.
